Scholarship: American Council of Engineering Companies

ACEC of Michigan’s Scholarship Program was created to promote the profession and to provide financial support to those individuals pursuing careers in engineering and surveying. On an annual basis, the Council awards scholarships to deserving college students who have completed their freshman year and are enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering or surveying program. Recipients of the awards will be evaluated in the following areas: Work experience, extra-curricular and community activities, references, grade point average, and a written essay.

Applicants must have worked for a private engineering, architectural or surveying firm in the past 24 months.

Scholarship: Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association

The Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association is pleased to announce that it will award at least two student scholarships again in 2019. We are currently accepting applications. Deadline to apply is Thursday, November 7th.

One Engineering Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2,000.
– The award is open to undergraduate students studying civil engineering or construction engineering enrolled at an accredited Wisconsin university or Michigan Technological University as of fall 2019.
– Preference will be given to those applicants who intend to pursue a career in the transportation construction industry (with an interest in asphalt pavements).
– Special consideration will be given to Wisconsin residents with sophomore or junior status as of the 2019-2020 academic year.
One Engineering Technical Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000.
– The award is open to engineering technology students enrolled at a Wisconsin technical college as of fall 2019.
– Preference will be given to those applications who intend to pursue a career in the transportation construction industry (with an interest in asphalt pavements).

Michigan Tech Engineering Ambassadors Program

Do you want to be a part of outreach to middle and high schoolers to teach about engineering?

Do you want to grow in your professional communication skills?

If yes… then you should check out Michigan Tech’s Engineering Ambassadors Program! Join a group of students who present on an engineering topic and conduct a hands on activity at local schools to excite students about engineering!

We will have an info session on Thursday Sept. 5 at 6 PM in Fisher 130; and our first general meeting will be Thursday Sept. 12 at 6 PM in Fisher 130. Join us, and bring a friend, to learn more about the program and help excite young students about STEM!

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is calling summer 2019 and recent graduates to come join the team! The PDP is a 24-month entry-level program that provides on-the-job training, developmental assignments, and a leadership skills academy. On-the-job training will be provided in one of FHWA Field Offices.

Scholarships: ASCE Michigan Section (Deadline: Memorial Day)

The Michigan Section of the ASCE encourages the advancement of the Civil Engineering profession by qualified and interested students. To that end, the ASCE Michigan Section offers financial support through two scholarships. These scholarships have been endowed through the efforts and generosity of individual Civil Engineers and leading Civil Engineering companies throughout Michigan. Applications are due by Memorial Day.
 
Mackinac Scholarship
Named in honor of Michigan’s #1 Civil Engineering Project of the 20th Century by the ASCE Michigan Section membership in December 1999, the Mackinac Scholarship is intended to recognize a premier Civil Engineering student from Michigan. The award will be presented annually, and will consist of a two-year grant of $5,000 each year (totaling $10,000 over a two-year period) to a student entering his or her junior year at an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program. The award considers merit, personal initiative, and financial need and encourages both participation in a student chapter of ASCE and contributions to the advancement of student engineering.
 
Zuidema Scholarship
Named in honor of an outstanding Past-President of the Michigan Section and the Western Michigan Branch of ASCE, the Marvin L. Zuidema Scholarship Award is presented annually to a student member of ASCE who has made a contribution to the advancement of student engineering activities. This award will consist of a one-time grant of $1,500, and considers academic performance as an indication of preparation for a future career in Civil Engineering. The Zuidema scholarship is available to either a junior or senior in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
