Job Posting: CAD Tech @ OHM (Hancock)

OHM is looking to hire a CAD Technician in their Hancock office. This person would be working closely with Engineers to help draft plans for Construction for Municipal, Transportation, Trail, and Site jobs. At this point, the individual doesn’t need much experience other than familiarity with Civil 3D, as there will be some training.

The Michigan Tech Writing Center is seeking peer writing coaches for the 2022-23 academic year. There are several positions open.

Job Posting: Railroad Industry Opportunity – West Lake Corridor Project Internship

Railroad Industry Opportunity: West Lake Corridor Project Internship
Description: The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) is expanding its South Shore Line passenger train service to Hammond, Munster, and Dyer through the construction of a new line known as the West Lake Corridor (WLC). To assist with various tasks relating to this service expansion, NICTD seeks a college student in their junior, senior, or graduate years of study with an engineering, marketing, and/or communications background to serve as a project intern.

Reporting to the project engineer, the intern shall assist the project manager and associated project engineers with engineering, communication, public outreach, and other activities as directed. This position may also work on other assignments associated with capital improvements on the South Shore Line. Work may be available during the 2021-2022 school year on a part time basis as well as during the summer of 2022. This is an at-will six month initial opportunity that may, at the District’s discretion, be renewed for successive periods of time or on a month to month basis.

Health Note: To qualify for an interview, candidates must meet the CDC’s most current
definition of fully vaccinated from the COVID virus or provide written evidence of a bona-fide medical or religious exemption from receipt of COVID immunizations. If hired, the successful candidate must also agree to self-test weekly for the COVID virus as part of the District’s efforts to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Assists in project implementation by providing support to the West Lake Corridor
project team.
● Basic Engineering tasks including reading drawings, organize digital and physical copies
of drawings, completing monthly reporting tasks, assisting with creating expenditure request and coordinate review of submittals within eBuilder.
● Coordinate with the Design Builder to prepare, post, and manage timely project updates
on various social media locations and the NICTD project website.
● Assist with all public outreach activities including, but not limited to, preparation and
logistical management of public meetings and information sessions.
● Perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, assistance with
communications, engineering, public outreach, and such other topics or projects as directed.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following education/experience requirements:
(1) Currently enrolled as a full time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, in their junior,
senior, or graduate year(s) of studies. Engineering, communication, and/or marketing majors, minors, or skills are highly preferred.
(2) Interest in longer term employment within the field of transportation, public utilities, or
other relevant fields is preferred but not required.
(3) GPA of 2.8 or better or enrollment in an honors’ program.
(4) Participation in relevant extra-curricular activities.
(5) Demonstrated ability to identify problems as well as develop and implement
solutions.
(6) Self-starter with the ability to timely address multiple priorities and deadlines.
(7) Demonstrated proficiency in knowledge and application of Microsoft Windows and Office Suite – especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
(8) Willingness to learn, able to work under occasionally highly stressful or uncertain
conditions, excellent verbal and written communication skills, valid driver’s license, and no recent drug, alcohol, or felony convictions.
(9) Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable
accommodations. This is an indoor/outdoor position where the employee frequently must be able to work in the type of environmental and climate conditions typical to northwest Indiana.
(10) Must read, write, and communicate clearly and fluently in English.
(11) Must be flexible about unexpected changes in work assignments or priorities.
(12) Must have reliable transportation to and from Hammond, Indiana.
(13) Must be a U.S. citizen and have a b green card permitting long term employment
including, but not limited to, employment after graduation.
(14) Persons with a long term interest in working in Northwest Indiana are preferred.

Position Schedule: During the school year, the work to be performed will be adjusted to fit the intern’s academic schedule. Work is possible during semester and holiday breaks. During the summer season, the anticipated normal work hours are thirty (30) to forty (40) hours per week or less during the daytime, Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be necessary based on project and operational needs.

Additional Requirements:
(1) Must pass all required assessments
(2) Must pass a background screening
(3) Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol screenings
(4) Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a safe driving record.

Salary and Benefits: Salary is $17.00/Hour. There are no paid holidays. An identification card will allow the intern free travel on District trains during the time of the internship. Personal protective gear will be supplied if needed. No other benefits are provided.
