Job Posting: Paid Student Leadership Opportunity with Admissions

Have you enjoyed your Michigan Tech experience? Maybe you’ve built a 30 foot snow statue for Winter Carnival, held a leadership role in a campus organization related to your interests, or worked on developing new technologies through one of our Enterprise teams. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is hiring students with various campus experiences and a passion for Michigan Tech to serve as Student Telecounselors and Campus Tour Guides. Both roles provide you with an opportunity to share the Michigan Tech student experience and help prospective students determine if Michigan Tech is the right fit for them.
Student Telecounselors:  Calling takes place Monday through Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. in the spring, on the third floor of Rehki Hall. You must work a minimum of two 3-hour shifts each week.

Campus Tour Guides: Campus tours are offered Monday through Friday with shifts available from 8 – 9 a.m.8 – 10 a.m.10 a.m. – 1 p.m.11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.12 – 1 p.m., and 2 – 4 p.m.

To apply, you must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least two semesters at Michigan Tech by the time you begin work and have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.  You must be enrolled in courses for the semester for which you are applying, with the exception of summer.

Olsson Associates is looking for a highly motivated new graduate with interest in Railroad Structural design who can help us fill our immediate needs.  We have many opportunities with Union Pacific and Burlington Northern and serve many different disciplines within the Railroad Industry that we need help with right away! Below are a few qualifications we are looking for in a structures candidate:

 

  • Highly recommended by faculty and staff
  • Highly motivated, team player who wants a collaborative, energetic and flexible work environment
  • Willing to travel (mostly West of Chicago for UPRR and BNSF projects)
  • Based in Omaha, NE (home of UPRR Headquarters)
  • Heavy interest in Rail Structures with related coursework, design knowledge and capabilities
  • Passed (or ready to sit for) the Fundamentals of Engineering test to be an EIT
  • MicroStation CAD work will be required.  If the candidate doesn’t have these skills, we can train them.

Hourly Research Assistants for Traffic Video Annotation

Hourly Research Assistants for Traffic Video Annotation The high-performance computing laboratory for Sustainable Intelligent Transportation Systems (SITSLab) in the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for hourly research assistants to help a research project on using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to monitor traffic flow dynamics. The hourly research assistants will work with a Ph.D. student on using a semi-automatic traffic annotation tool, iATTS (Interactive Annotation Tool for Transportation Surveillance), developed at SITS-Lab to identify and annotate individual vehicle trajectories in UAV videos. The work will be conducted in our research laboratory, Dow 842. The hourly pay rate will be $10/hour.

To qualify for this position you should be familiar with the following computer operations:

  1. Google Earth (Google Maps) software
  2. Windows Paint
  3. Familiar with video play software such as windows media player
  4. Quick learning ability to operate a Windows GUI – iATTS

The successful candidates must be able to show excellent communication skills, demonstrated attention to detail, and a good work ethic. You have to pass a training test in order to do this work.

Fleis & VanderBrink is looking for upcoming (December) graduates  interested in traffic and transportation.

They are looking to hire one or two new grads that have an ability to do public speaking, can work in a very fast paced environment, is very good technically, a fast learner and is really passionate about traffic operations and design-or wants to be.

If yes, they would love to talk to you and see if they would be interested in joining our group in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Their group does about 75% of all of the traffic impact studies in Michigan and are looking to grow that number.  Some of their clients include Meijer, Kroger and Amazon. Fleis & VanderBrink also work with municipalities such as Livonia, Birmingham and Brighton Twp in addition to traffic studies they perform as part of MDOT contracts.  This is only a fraction of the diversity of work that they perform in this group and with some great new grads with fresh ideas they can take the group to the next level.
