Job Posting: Permasteelisa North America

Permasteelisa North America will have representatives from their company at this week’s Virtual Career Fair, including alum James Buckingham (BS Civil ’10).

As a company, we design, engineer, and build the facades of iconic buildings and we are hoping to add more Tech students to our team! I’m also excited to share that we are starting a co-op opportunity at Permasteelisa for students interested in gaining real-work structural engineering experience in a challenging and supportive work environment.  We’ve had great feedback on our summer internships over the years, and we want to give students the opportunity to take on the larger scopes of work on our projects that a co-op experience would allow.  In addition to co-ops, we are also looking for full-time and intern structural engineering and construction management candidates as well.

More info can be found on our website (www.permasteelisagroup.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/permasteelisagroup), along with the attached photos of recent projects.

Job Posting: 3M (Env. Eng)

3M is seeking environmental engineers for their EHS Optimized Operations (O2) program! We are actively recruiting for summer internship and full-time positions. I will be at the 2021 Virtual Career Fair; students can sign up for a time slot on my calendar in Career Fair Plus to review their resume with me and discuss the job openings. Students must apply for the job using the links below to be formally considered so I recommend applying prior to or immediately after the Career Fair if seriously interested.

Candidates with prior experience in a manufacturing setting or a desire to work in a manufacturing setting will be preferred. For more details about the jobs and to ultimately apply, please visit the following links: Internship (https://3m.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/Search/job/US-Minnesota-Maplewood/Internship—Optimized-Operations–O2–EHS-Engineering-Intern_R01058914) and Full-Time (https://3m.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/Search/job/US-Minnesota-Maplewood/UR—Optimized-Operations–O2–EHS-Engineer_R01057961).

YPC Lunch and Learn Presentation – September 22

How MDOT Operations Projects are Selected – presented by John Engle, P.E.

Have you ever wondered about the process of how MDOT operational improvement projects are selected?  Have you ever wondered what a funding template is, or what process MDOT follows in selecting operational improvements on its highway network?  This Virtual Lunch and Learn discussion, geared toward young professionals, will be led by John Engle, P.E. of the Michigan DOT, and he will help answer these questions as well as provide some practical commentary on how MDOT’s Operations Template selects and funds projects.  The one-hour session is free to attend, and will take place September 22, 2021, from 11am-Noon.

NEED: K-6 After School STEM Instructors

The MTU Center for Science & Environmental Outreach provides after school STEM classes for students at Baraga Elementary and CJ Sullivan Elementary School (L’Anse). Classes are once per week for one hour between 4-6 pm. They may be virtual or in-person. The Center has lots of lessons already to go that an instructor just has to organize supplies for. Classes begin week of Sept. 13

The Center also conducts 1.5-2 hour science field trips during the school day for K-8 classes, which usually take place at their schools. There are already lessons prepared and supply kits ready to go. You can choose times to fit your schedule.

You must have your own car.  If you’re interested, please complete this online application

Feel free to contact Joan Chadde (jchadde@mtu.edu) with any questions. The supply kits are stored in the forestry building, rather than GLRC, for easy access. We would have a short training with all interested instructors first.

Evening with Industry

The Society of Women Engineers would like to invite you, any student, to Evening with Industry, our annual industry networking dinner with the largest number of company representatives present together outside of a Career Fair. We have multiple employers who are hiring civil and environmental engineers.

The Evening with Industry event will be held virtually at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, September 21st. The link to student registration, which closes on September 14th, can be found here: http://www.mtuswe.com/ewifor-students. Again, the event is free to all students regardless of gender. We even have a referral contest going for students who encourage their friends to sign up, so be sure to tell your colleagues- you might even win something! With questions, please email sweewi@mtu.edu.
