Chemical Engineering Supports 12 Undergraduate Students This Fall

The Michigan Tech Department of Chemical Engineering is proud to support 12 undergraduate students during the Fall 2026 semester through the Gary & Judy Anderson (ChE ‘67) Chemical Engineering Endowed Research Fund and the Ron & Ann Marie Harma (ChE ‘60) Endowed Minerals Processing Undergraduate Fund.

The students applied for support through the Department of Chemical Engineering’s fellowship application process, which provides undergraduate students with opportunities to receive financial assistance while pursuing hands-on learning, research, and professional development.

Investing in Student Opportunities

The Gary & Judy Anderson Chemical Engineering Endowed Research Fund provides financial support for undergraduate research students in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Undergraduate research allows students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world engineering challenges while working alongside faculty mentors.

The Ron & Ann Marie Harma Endowed Minerals Processing Undergraduate Fund was established to provide financial support for undergraduate students studying minerals processing in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Through this fund, students interested in minerals processing and related areas can receive support as they build their technical knowledge and prepare for careers in the field.

These funds help provide students with opportunities to become more actively engaged in their areas of study and gain experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Encouraging Undergraduate Research

The Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Research Fellowship program is designed to inspire undergraduate engineering students to actively participate in research, with the goal of encouraging them to consider pursuing graduate degrees in chemical engineering.

Students selected for the program work with a Chemical Engineering faculty mentor and participate in research throughout the semester. The program also emphasizes sharing their work with others. Students are required to present a poster at the annual Undergraduate Research Scholarship Symposium (URSS) or another engineering or scientific research poster event each year while participating in the program.

Through these experiences, students develop valuable skills in research, communication, problem-solving, and technical presentation.

A Commitment to Our Students

Supporting undergraduate students through endowed funds is an important part of the Chemical Engineering Department’s commitment to providing a well-rounded Michigan Tech education. Financial support can help students take advantage of opportunities that deepen their academic experience, explore potential career paths, and prepare for what comes next.

The Department is grateful to Gary and Judy Anderson and Ron and Ann Marie Harma for establishing these endowed funds and investing in the future of Chemical Engineering students at Michigan Tech.

Congratulations to our 12 Fall 2026 student recipients! We are excited to support them as they continue their academic journeys and look forward to seeing where their research, education, and engineering experiences take them.
