“Data Carpentry Workshop on R” Is May 22-23

Michigan Tech will host an in-person “Data Carpentry Workshop on R” on May 22-23, 2023, each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The emphasis of the workshop is on ecology.

The workshop will take place in the Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC), Room 202

All Michigan Tech students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend this free workshop. Please note that learners are expected to commit to attending the entire workshop.

Please register by Friday, May 12, 2023. Space is limited and the workshop will likely fill quickly.

Register here. Confirmation of your registration will be emailed on Monday, May 15, 2023.

This workshop curriculum includes:

  • Data Organization
  • Introduction to R
  • Data Manipulation with R (tidyverse)
  • Plotting and Programming with R (ggplot2)

The workshop’s target audience is learners with little to no prior computational experience, and the instructors prioritize creating a friendly environment to empower researchers and enable data-driven discovery.

However, even those with some experience will benefit, as the goal is to teach not only how to do analyses, but how to manage the process to make it as automated and reproducible as possible.

Learners should bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system on which you have administrative privileges. You will be asked to install a few software packages (instructions will be provided).  Tablets, Chromebooks, etc. are not adequate for the workshop.
