Like many college students, Kelsey Hagebusch’s path to her bachelor’s degree has been nonlinear. “When I first started college, I was taking business classes at a community college, but I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do,” she says.

Following, she attended Northern Michigan University where she took a computer coding class. “I really, really liked it,” she says. As a result, she changed her major to computer science and then transferred to Michigan Tech to complete her studies.

“I really like the sense of community up here,” Hagebusch says of Michigan Tech. “The smaller setting makes it easy to form bonds and study groups. As I’ve gone through the CS program, I’ve had many of the same students in my classes.” And it’s easy to talk with her professors, even in the bigger classes. “For the most part, they all really care about your learning and not just about teaching the class,” she says. “I’ve had an overall very good experience here at Michigan Tech.”

Hagebusch feels ready to begin her career. “I do feel like Michigan Tech prepared me. There are constantly a lot of new things to learn, and Tech is good at setting you up to take on whatever comes your way,” she says.

Hagebush grew up in Gladstone, Michigan, near Escanaba, graduating from Gladstone High School in 2017. Her parents and three younger siblings live in Gladstone. She graduates with her Bachelor of Computer Science this December (2023).
