Purpose & Scope of The Position: 

Mine Engineer is responsible for long-term mine planning, assisting in developing metal plans, and providing technical guidance/support for the Mine Department and other Departments as required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • All RNMC employees are accountable for the safety of themselves as well as that of their coworkers.
  • Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of the long term mine plan (material sequence; access planning; pit design; shot muck inventory; blast design and planning; dump sequencing) to attain the Life of Mine Plan.
  • Coordinate mine planning and technical evaluation planning process and offer assistance or direct the activities for long and short-term projects (i.e. reclamation; hydrology; dump design; third party engineering studies; blasting techniques & procedures).
  • Assist in developing accurate metal plans, particularly for weekly plans.
  • Assist Mine Operations department to determine equipment requirements.
  • Assist other departments (Geology, Environmental, etc.) in organizing, scheduling, and carrying out projects in and around the pit.
  • Present mine plans in front of various group sizes and backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering or Civil Engineering. 
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 1-2 years of responsible mine engineering experience and/or Summer Intern open-pit mining operations. 
    • Mine Operations/Supervision experience would be beneficial.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license.

 Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • A working knowledge of MineSight or other mine planning software package is preferred.
  • Be a leader, motivator, and embrace RNMC’s Zero Harm culture.  Be able to work safely and in a team environment and communicate well with others.
  • Basic knowledge of mine planning is desired but not required.
  • Excellent analytical, management, organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to perform multiple and variable responsibilities is required.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and in a team environment and communicate well with others.
  • A working knowledge of MineSight or other mine planning software package is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of resource estimation is desired but not required.
  • Experience with acQuire, NPV Scheduler, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is preferred.

 Travel Requirements:

  • Travel as required.
