Job: Elko – Resource Geologist – Barrick

JOB PURPOSE                                                                                                                                         

Resource geology position that works as part of a team to assist in the identification, evaluation, exploitation, and extraction of ore reserves. This role delivers fit-for-purpose, high-quality models aligned to the business needs.

A level of autonomy is necessary to resolve complex problems where creativity, technical judgment, tact, and initiative are required. Collaboration with key stakeholders through daily site engagement, including regular field visits in the pit and/or underground are essential to validate model assumptions and performance.

 RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                         

Primary responsibilities and tasks:

  • Coach and mentor mine geologists
  • Contribute to and execute best-practice resource estimation workflows that are fit-for-purpose to the business needs for responsible projects.
  • Review resource and reserve statements, block models, geological databases, QAQC information, mine designs, schedules, costs and technical reports.
  • Develop and validate geological models with varying levels of complexity. Produce high-quality, accurate resource models, considering the financial impacts on mining and exploration decisions.
  • Prepare and present detailed geological information and resource estimates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure orebody knowledge has been communicated for integration into all part of the business.
  • Integrate field observations and interpretations into high-quality geological models, focused on geologically constrained explicit-implicit estimation domains.
  • Collate, analyze, and interpret data to write impactful technical reports that summarizes adopted workflows, explains business impacts and identification of risk or opportunity with assigned actions across the business.
  • Work independently and collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Carry out a range of research activities either to support others or to fulfill the requirements of the role
  • Drive a positive feedback loop to ensure model validation occurs across the mining geology value chain
    • Field leadership with mine geologists to validate models in the pit and/or underground
    • Work with reconciliation geologists to identify trends linked to model performance
    • Resource geologists are validating their block models against geological controls to mineralization
  • Resolve queries from engineering, operations, or others as applicable by providing information on complex processes and the related policies
  • Follow the organization’s HS&E policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate

 QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                         

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geological Engineering, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in relevant mining geology preferred; mining engineering or exploration roles also considered supplemented with a relevant post-graduate degree in Geostatistics.
  • Awareness of reporting codes (NI43-101, SK-1300)
  • Experience within the industry including mining geology in open pit and/or underground production environments.
  • Proven geological interpretation skills with the ability to apply this to Resource estimation. Experience in modelling structurally controlled gold systems preferred.

Job: Fourmile – Geologist I, II or III – Barrick

Barrick Gold Corporation is looking for a Geologist I,II or III to be part of the multi-disciplinary Mineral Resource Management project team at the exciting Fourmile Project in the Cortez District of Nevada.

As a Geologist and a part of the Barrick Fourmile project team, the successful candidate will support the development of Fourmile through execution of exploration & resource delineation programs to identify new and define economic ore zones to deliver as part of PFS and FS studies.  

The ideal candidate will have a background in geology with experience in mining and/or exploration preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in core logging, geologic mapping, and exposure to mining and exploration software packages such as Acquire, Leapfrog Geo, Maptek Vulcan, or Deswik.

Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver on our journey to a zero harm workplace through stop work authority, participation in safety programs and identification of hazards and their mitigation.
  • Build ore body knowledge from observations made during core logging, cross section interpretation and input to geologic model updates. 
  • Assist with planning of core and directional drillholes and ensure progress is tracked. Intervene as required to achieve targets. 
  • Maintenance of drill schedule, drill pad construction & logistical coordination with a multi-disciplinary team of geologists, engineers, core technicians, and drill services business partners
  • Logging data collection & QAQC of returned results to ensure data integrity and targets are met
  • Weekly drill program reporting on project status, budget & geologic insights
  • Supporting core logging team with peer reviews and logging assistance. 
  • Aid in interpretation, generation, and refinement of geologic and resource models for the area of interest
  • Assist with geological and numerical modeling projects in Leapfrog Geo as directed 
  • Provide geological interpretation and support to other team members and project decisions
  • Participate in professional development training to expand skillset and provide fit for purpose solutions to the project
  • Perform other duties as required

     

Qualifications

 

  • Excellent demonstrated safety record required
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or closely related field required
  • Ability to work within a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Previous mining or exploration experience required preferred
  • Previous core logging or mapping experience required 
  • Familiarity with mining and exploration software (Acquire, Leapfrog Geo, Maptek Vulcan, or Deswik) preferred
  • Ability to interpret geologic cross sections inclusive of lithologic, structural, alteration and mineralization to identify & communicate the “so what” implications preferred
