Job Summary: Arcosa Aggregates is seeking a motivated Mining Engineer who is eager to learn about various roles within the aggregates industry, including operations, sales, quality control, and other support functions. This HYBRID role will report to the Director of Technical Services and the candidate’s functional leader during various assignments.

You will work at specific locations for approximately 2+ months at a time, gaining exposure to many aspects of the business, including operations management (hard rock, sand & gravel, wet mining, etc.), continuous improvement, sales, environmental, and other support functions. You will work closely with all levels of management within the operations and various business support areas (Accounting, Finance, HR, etc.) to analyze and improve production systems, processes, and operations. You will identify areas for improvement and develop data-driven optimization strategies to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance.

Day to Day:

  • Effectively communicate with plant and regional management to understand the drivers of an operations business and identify potential areas for improvement.
  • Learn to manage teams by understanding various functional roles, improving processes, and ultimately enhancing team and operational performance.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics to track progress and measure success.
  • Be comfortable learning new concepts and applying them to other training segments.
  • Help others understand “what good looks like” within all areas that affect efficient aggregate operations.
  • Comply with all industry safety rules, procedures, and applicable government regulations.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mining or civil engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in various related roles/industries. Former internships in aggregate operations are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, learn, and influence change while challenging the status quo when necessary.
  • Experience with optimization tools and methodologies. Proficient in the Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.) and exposed to applications that support plant and mobile fleet optimizations such as AggFlow, AutoCAD, or others.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prompt, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Positive, team-based attitude.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing environments.

Are You Our Next Engineer?

The Engineer I provides technical support primarily to plant operations groups and responsible for front-end engineering development of capital projects.  Serves as an active contributor to Mosaic cross-site and/or cross-functional assignments and initiatives.  Frequently assigned to high-profile projects, support assignments, and initiatives.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide plant process engineering support to the operations group, including plant optimization, troubleshooting, efficiency improvement, problem solving, and problem prevention.
  • Leverage ideas and assistance including resources across plant sites.
  • Plan and identify business objectives by evaluating viable options, preliminary design development, and preliminary economic and risk mitigation evaluation.
  • Provide commission and start-up support for assigned projects.
  • Support current business initiatives, such as specific problem-solving projects or improvement activities involving multiple sites.
  • Ensure site safety and environmental standards are being followed through safety audits, risk assessments, and housekeeping tours.
  • Report any issues that can impact the environment or the safety of the employees.

 Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Mining, Industrial, Civil)
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, PI/OSISoft products or similar data historian, added benefit if the experience is with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project/Primavera (or similar software) experience.
  • Excellent written and communication skills and ability to interface with all levels of management.
  • Must demonstrate ability to influence others; requires strong leadership qualities, and team building.
  • Manage and control project costs and schedule by ensuring that effective project controls are in place and functioning properly.
  • Providing coordination between design, procurement, and/or construction for integration of technical content and schedule activities

Engineer I

  • 0-2 years of related experience in engineering, industrial project experience, or engineering project management

Bonus Points if You Have the Following:

  • SAP/Maximo application experience

Permitting Engineer

The Engineer- Permitting (II or III) will plan and prepare permit applications for the Minerals and Concentrates Business Units, including state and county annual reports, county operating permits, Environmental Resource Permits (ERP)/Conceptual Reclamation Plans (CRP) through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Clean Water Act 404 Dredge and Fill Permits through the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), Polk, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Hardee counties.  Additional responsibilities will include coordinating with reclamation and compliance staff on reclamation designs, mitigation standards, preparation of conceptual reclamation plans (CRP), ERP/CRP modifications and coordinating with Mosaic staff in determining appropriate preservation areas, infrastructure requirements and permit timing needs.  Engineer- Permitting (II or III) staff is expected to be able to meet and coordinate with regulatory staff on matters relating to Mosaic’s permitting efforts.

What will you do?

  • Communicates with municipalities, public utilities, and regulatory agencies as needed to facilitate processing of mine permits and related approvals.
  • Attends meetings with regulatory agencies (Federal, State and Local) and public hearings as needed.
  • Attends periodic inspections with regulatory staff.
  • Provides support and works collaboratively with other departments regarding permitting as needed.
  • Researches and stays current with the rules, requirements and policies of each municipality and/or regulatory agency to facilitate permit processing and expedite completion.
  • Prepares draft local county applications, FDEP ERP/CRP permits, and Clean Water Act 404 Dredge and Fill wetlands permits and modifications to the same.
  • Responds to Requests for Additional Information on applications from various agencies.
  • Responds to internal questions on permit progress.
  • Prepares annual federal, state and county reports as required by Development Orders or county ordinance.
  • Submits and schedules all appropriate notifications as required by regulatory and permitting agencies.
  • Ability to read engineering plans, reports, and decipher the information contained within.
  • Participates in stakeholder involvement activities such as Community Advisory Panel meetings, community volunteer activities, and provide presentations to similar stakeholder groups.
  • Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

What do you need for this role?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining, Civil, Geological, or Environmental Engineering required.
  • Engineer II – 2+ years of experience in mine or wetland permitting at the county, state, and/or federal levels.
  • Engineer III – 4+ years of experience in mine or wetland permitting at the county, state, and/or federal levels.

What you’ll do? 

Day to day work assignments could include:  

  • Assignments will involve learning all aspects of working at a site including Mine Planning, Operations Optimization, Quality Control, Mapping and more.  
  • Communicate with various levels of personnel throughout the organization, including management, mine operators, engineers (of various disciplines), lab personnel, and contractors  
  • Participation in department meetings and meetings specific to the project assignment  
  • Adhering to Mosaic’s mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies  

What you’ll need: 

  • Sophomore level by May 2026 or higher pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
  • 2.75 GPA or higher 
  • 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is preferred.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license – You will need to be able to travel to and from sites and/or office.
  • Ability to work full time and be a student in standing at the time of the co-op/internship
  • Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete the following: Post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Experience working in a team environment is a must.
  • Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable.
  • Effective verbal communication skills is a plus.
  • Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments.
