GROUNDED Engineering Services, LLC (GROUNDED) is currently seeking a staff engineer/geologist for an entry level engineer/geologist role.  GROUNDED is a full-service geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing firm serving clients throughout the state and country in residential, commercial, and industrial development.  GROUNDED also provides environmental consulting services, retaining wall design, and septic design services.  We currently have offices in Flowery Branch, GA and Marietta, GA.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals who want to gain hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering.  You will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers to support a variety of projects. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with field investigations including geotechnical borehole layout, monitoring soil test borings, test pits, and geotechnical sampling
  • Field inspection, sampling & testing of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, etc.
  • NPDES monitoring – Site inspections and reporting
  • Office roles may include but not be limited to performing engineering analyses of field data, assisting in geotechnical report preparation, report review, estimating project scopes and budgets, developing proposals, and supervising/assisting with laboratory testing.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to gain project management and engineering experience
  • Utilize AutoCAD to prepare location plans and to analyze topographic information
  • Position entails approximately 80% fieldwork and 20% office with occasional travel 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering 
  • EIT or GIT is preferred but not required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans

General Responsibilities:

• Transports equipment, specimens or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.
• Cleans equipment, vehicles and work areas
• Assists other technicians or professional staff on routine tasks
• Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.

Requirements:
High school diploma and BS degree in progress in a science or related field (environmental, safety, engineering, chemistry, biology, geology). The ideal candidate will have less than one year remaining to complete their BS degree.

Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in a variety of sectors, including for example public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Demonstrate quality practices and acumen.
  • Provide consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
  • Proficient engineering professional responsible for managing and executing small projects of minimal complexity.
  • Assist in developing the scope of work for routine projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, and other project related documents.
  • Analyze data, and perform engineering calculations and analysis for PE review.
  • Conduct, coordinate or supervise field investigations, laboratory testing, and evaluation of respective data.
  • Develop plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Work closely with senior-level project manager and Professional Engineer of Record to gain project management and engineering experience.
  • Makes design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for review and consideration by the Professional Engineer of Record.
  • Prepares work scope, proposals and reports and plans investigations for approval by senior level professionals.
  • May supervise field staff including graduate/field engineers, engineering technicians, exploration teams, laboratory staff and other support personnel.
  • Interacts with client and project team in developing scope of services and communicating project progress.
  • Works under the supervision of a Professional Engineer and a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required.
