POSITION DESCRIPTION  

HGL is currently seeking a mid-level Geologist to join our team in St. Louis, MO. Our project office in Hazelwood, MO is dedicated to supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) involved in the remedial cleanup of low-level radiological contaminates in the St. Louis area. We have an opportunity for a creative and motivated professional to join our multi-disciplinary project team to help solve complex environmental projects.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING  

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing/evaluating environmental data; including aerial photographs, topographic maps, and analytical data for the development of soil sampling work plans.
  • Oversight of field team for the collection of soil and creek sediment samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • Ensuring field operations are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans.
  • Evaluating/interpreting environmental data and developing contamination contours.
  • Development of written reports summarizing environmental data and final assessments of results.
  • Providing geological support for remedial excavation activities.  

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • BA/BS in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Environmental Science.
  • 0-5 years of directly related experience.
  • Previous experience with environmental investigations utilizing various soil and sediment sampling methodologies.
  • Must be able to work in a construction-type environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience with drilling, logging, and sampling of environmental borings; developing/reviewing/interpretating of geological boring logs.
  • Proficiency MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel is required.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.
  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation skills, and the ability to complete projects independently and / or in small teams. 
  • Attention to detail and quality required. 

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • RG or PG Certification.
  • Knowledge and experience of CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, and/or RCRA projects.
