Purpose & Scope of The Position:
The purpose of this position is to ensure the proper classification of ore and waste in every mining layback and to ensure that material mined in the open pits at Robinson is characterized and classified properly and delivered to the correct destination. The geologist will ensure that all necessary assays and additional test results are received so that blasted material can be released for mining. This position is also central to coordination of Mine to Mill communication. The scope includes oversight of all ore control functions, including preparation and distribution of Daily Maps. The geologist will map all blast hole patterns and log the blast hole cuttings. Assist in geologic mapping/drone flights of the highwalls in all the various laybacks in the active pits and stockpiles. Finally, the geologist will assist in collecting monthly samples required by the Environmental department for compliance with our operating permits.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
- Supervise the Ore Control process of compiling all the necessary information, verify that all relevant data is in AcQuire, import the data to MinePlan, verify that the drill hole data and model data are valid then classify all ore and waste materials appropriately.
- Coordinate flow of Ore Control information as it relates Mine to Mill communication and cooperation.
- Supervise the performance of four geologic technicians with respect to the Ore Control process and other necessary work.
- Assist with highwall geologic maps and ensure blast hole geologic maps are fully integrated.
- Assist in managing ore stockpiles needed for metallurgical blending.
- Supervise the implementation of blending guidelines with an emphasis on monitoring adherence to blending plans. Ensure that the Mine and Mill are constantly informed of the progress in following the plan and that both departments are ready to make adjustments to plans as necessary to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable results.
- Map all pertinent geologic features present in blast hole patterns.
- Perform all necessary Ore Control task including data entry, generation of daily maps, ore and waste cut generation, and updating the AXIS/MinePlan ore control model as necessary.
- Export mining cuts to Terrain.
- Drone license or willingness to get drone license with employment.
- Comply with all RNMC environmental regulations.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of Robinson Nevada Mining Company and KGHM.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geometallurgy.
- Experience: One to three years’ mining and/or exploration experience.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: A Master’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geometallurgy.
- Experience:
- Experience in the ore control role, including geometallurgical blending in an open pit mining environment will be highly regarded.
- Experience with hydrothermal copper deposits. Knowledge of intrusive centered systems.
- Experience mentoring entry level geologists.
- Experience in a Mill or other process background.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Applicant should be able to work in a multi-tasking environment.
- Working knowledge of MinePlan and/or LeapFrog.
- Working knowledge of AcQuire GIMM suite.
- AutoCad or other drafting software.
- Working knowledge of Deswik.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Fundamental understanding of Economic Geology.
- Identification of rocks and minerals.
- Complete understanding of Excel and other MS office programs.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel for training and development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the four Geology Technicians.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
