As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll be directly involved in site explorations and subsurface drilling to support significant infrastructure developments. Working under the guidance of a Licensed Engineer, you’ll build practical experience, perform detailed evaluations, and strengthen your skills in preparing concise, professional documentation.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Field Program Oversight: Manage and coordinate subsurface investigations, overseeing drilling operations and sampling activities.
  • Sample Collection & Documentation: Obtain soil and rock specimens from diverse project sites and record essential properties.
  • Testing & Subsurface Evaluation: Perform laboratory analyses, assess ground conditions, and contribute to geotechnical interpretations.
  • Technical Writing: Develop comprehensive reports that capture investigation data, testing outcomes, and engineering conclusions.
  • Engineering Support: Deliver geologic insights to inform project design, including site suitability evaluations and risk considerations.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mining, or a related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in geotechnical or geological projects
  • An Engineer in Training (EIT) or Geologist in Training (GIT) certification, a plus
  • A strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD
  • A passion for Geology and Geotechnical Solutions with a strong interest in field and analytical work

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites

General Responsibilities:
Evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data including soil and groundwater to develop conclusions concerning the environmental and geologic site conditions. Generate subsurface maps and cross-sections and collaborate with engineering and environmental scientist staff on projects. Oversee field monitoring and testing of soils including boring investigations and soil type classification. Interpret soil, bedrock and groundwater elevation and quality data.   • May assist more senior Geologists on large, more complex projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for approval by senior level professionals.
  • Evaluates moderately complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
  • May serve as team member or participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • May oversee work performed by lower level Geologists/Hydrogeologists.
  • Works under the supervision of a Professional Geologist (PG) and a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements:

SUMMARY

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in our Phoenix, AZ office, supporting our geotechnical engineering practice. Our ideal candidate for this dynamic and challenging role will be responsible for the following tasks outlined below.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overseeing of Geotechnical Engineering Project Budget and Schedule
  • Responsible for supervision/oversight of field and laboratory sampling and testing
  • It may require some field and laboratory work from time to time
  • Contracting/Negotiating of projects with vendors and clients
  • Project lead for Construction Materials Testing and Forensic Projects
  • Perform construction observations and oversee quality assurance testing of civil works projects
  • Approving Vendor Invoices, Building T&M Invoices
  • Reviewing of Geologic Research/Geotechnical Reports by others
  • Geotechnical Report preparation and review and other geotechnical engineering studies

  • Review of lab and field data from others

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pertinent Engineering degree is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screen
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, and standing, walking, sitting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout the work shift.

Compensation:
The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
