This position will involve gaining experience within the commercial construction, waterfront, dam and levee, and public infrastructure sectors. Essential Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Perform engineering analysis and calculations.
  • Oversee geotechnical field investigations.
  • Coordinate and interpret lab test data.
  • Manage geotechnical data through spreadsheets and databases.
  • Prepare technical memos, reports, and construction specifications.
  • Observe and document construction activities.
  • Prepare and modify drawings using AutoCAD.  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent, with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 0 to 3+ years of experience.
  • Excellent writing and general communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of CAD.
  • Ability to perform field work without restrictions, in inclement weather.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 25% or more.
  • Valid driver’s license.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in Civil 3D or GIS a plus.
  • 40-hr OSHA/HAZWOPER training is a plus

Your Role:

  • Collect groundwater samples from monitoring wells, springs, and base flow locations while recording detailed documentation pursuant to the sampling plan
  • Maintain quality control throughout the sample collection process
  • Assist with installation of pressure transducers and collection of water level measurements
  • Operate generators, trailers, and a variety of sampling equipment in the field
  • Calibrate, use and maintain water quality meters and complete calibration logbooks
  • Maintain all groundwater sampling equipment in adherence to applicable quality and maintenance standards
  • Coordinate with and take direction from project leads as required
  • Support projects as necessary by requesting site access, tabulating data, and consolidating data into field summary reports
  • Comply with all health & safety policies
  • Use a transfer pump and manage poly tanks to support purge water storage and disposition
  • Other duties in support of the Water Program as assigned
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrology, or related field.

The Opportunity: 

A Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for a variety of field-centric duties including observing construction activities, testing material properties, and providing engineering consulting on projects of increasing complexity. You will play a key role in assisting our clients to successfully execute their projects. As a Geotechnical Engineer you will work under the direct supervision of registered Professional Engineers and other industry experts. You will be given autonomy to execute in-depth evaluations, troubleshoot complex issues, and make recommendations with the support of the Project Managers. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluation of soils for bearing capacity, subgrade modulus, seismic site classification, lateral earth pressures, analysis of laboratory test data and results, pressuremeter analysis, slope stability analysis, deep foundation design and other related geotechnical engineering topics. 
  • Work closely in coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and other SME team members. 
  • Prepare geotechnical proposals and reports. 
  • Collaboration of scopes of work and recommendations with senior level engineers.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer plays a crucial role in bridging technical mining expertise with mining operations by providing insights through engineering guidance, driving operational efficiency, financial accountability, and long-term project success. This position is responsible for analyzing operational data, preparing engineering designs/operational GPS support, conducting field data collection, and production forecasting.

By integrating engineering principles, the role provides support for optimizing mining operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and evaluating potential efficiency improvements. Additionally, it involves collaboration with Turner Mining Group and client teams, ensuring alignment between corporate objectives, site-level execution, and regulatory compliance.

This role requires a strong operational mindset, familiar with MSHA safety guidelines, industry knowledge, and the ability to analyze complex data into actionable recommendations. With a focus on continuous improvement, efficiency, and project execution, the Project Engineer is integral to enhancing both operational performance and efficiency at Turner Mining Group.

Position Responsibilities:

Operational & Technical Analysis

  • Review operational reports (cost, safety, production) and analyze data for key trends.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Conduct risk assessments for operational, technical, and financial aspects of mining projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize mine planning, design, and extraction techniques.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor operational performance and drive improvements.

Mine Engineering & Survey Duties

  • Manage fleet management and high precision GPS systems.
  • Develop Drill & Blast pattern, profile, and timing designs and short-range plans.
  • Produce road designs, stockpile and waste storage designs, and others in Hexagon MineSight.
  • Operate survey drones and reconcile results.
  • Analyze FMS and other data for risks and opportunities.
  • Audit and advise client on short range mine plans.

Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Turner Mining departments and external stakeholders to define project scopes and execution strategies.
  • Act as a technical link between client technical services and project management to ensure alignment on operational objectives.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives, such as internal workshops and training, to support operational and analytical capabilities across teams.
  • Engage with suppliers and service providers to optimize procurement strategies for project operations.

Compliance and Safety Integration

  • Ensure that all engineering recommendations align with MSHA safety regulations and industry best practices.

The Ideal Candidate:

Education and Experience

  • Mining or Civil Engineering Degree or related.
  • 3 years of mine site engineering or operational experience.
  • Hands-on experience with mining engineering software (Hexagon MineSight preferred or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Part 107 drone license preferred
  • Procurement and mine accounting experience preferred

Technical and Analytical Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering data into actionable recommendations.
  • Knowledge of drill & blast design, mine haulage analysis, and GPS fleet management.
  • Familiarity with mine accounting and procurement processes (preferred but not required).
