S&ME’s Spark Internship Program is open to current students from a variety of different educational backgrounds and career focus. Internship opportunities are available across our various Service Lines including: Civil Engineering, Construction Services and Materials Testing, Environmental Services and Industrial Hygiene, Geotechnical Engineering, and Transportation Design-Build.

As part of the 2026 Spark Internship Program, you will work alongside experienced professional and technical employee-owners within your area of interest. You will be a part of an intern cohort and will learn about all aspects of S&ME. S&ME’s internship will provide you with invaluable hands on experience, access to technical experts across the company, as well as provide professional development to help you transition from campus to career and find success in our industry.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a related degree program; Rising Juniors, Seniors, or Graduate students preferred;
  • Related experience and/or campus, community, work-related leadership experience preferred;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Out of town travel may be required;
  • For technical roles the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is required;
  • Routine lifting may be required: 40 to 50 lbs.

These are full-time, internship positions for a twelve-week period from May 2026 through August 2026 with competitive pay based on experience. Housing or a housing stipend will not be provided. Successful candidates must meet requirements of the company’s Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program. About The Role:

As an Associate Geophysicist, you will primarily execute near-surface geophysical surveys and perform site observations, while also providing support for geophysical data processing as well as geotechnical and environmental exploration, allowing our team to deliver accurate subsurface insights for engineering and environmental projects. Approximately 75% or more of your time will be spent in the field, ensuring the integrity and reliability of geophysical data that supports safe infrastructure development and sustainable solutions. This role provides exposure to a wide range of geophysical techniques and offers opportunities to contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of the industry.

  • Coordinate and Execute Field Surveys: Plan, organize, and perform near-surface geophysical surveys using a variety of advanced methodologies, such as electromagnetic induction, ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, and induced polarization.
  • Assist with Data Processing: Support basic geophysical data processing and interpretation tasks, ensuring accuracy and consistency in deliverables.
  • Ensure Data Quality and Compliance: Conduct QA/QC on field data, verify adherence to project goals, and identify limitations or anomalies in real time.
  • Contribute to Proposals and Reporting: Assist in proposal preparation, draft report sections, and provide technical input to support project documentation.
  • Maintain Equipment: Oversee calibration, organization, maintenance, and scheduling of geophysical equipment.

About You:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, geology, or a related field
  • You have 0 to 3 years of professional experience
  • You are willing and able to meet the physical and logistical demands of the position with the use of company-provided vehicles and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as:
    • Primarily working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions
    • Routinely lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50+ pounds
    • Regularly traveling (including out-of-town or overnight) for various projects as needed
  • You have familiarity, experience or an interest in learning any of the following Geophysical methods:

Conduct analysis and study of the composition, structure and history of the earth’s crust to gather geological information to develop and drill oil and gas prospects and projects. Provide geological expertise in the exploration efforts of a geologic province characterized by a high degree of structural complexity and stratigraphic variability. Identify hydrocarbon baring intervals through demonstrated proficiency in fundamental and empirical knowledge of elastic properties and associated geophysical signatures. Proficiently utilize 3-D software packages to map intricate structural and stratigraphic hydrocarbon accumulations by the integration of subsurface well data and three dimensional seismic information. Provide geophysical input to generate, screen, prioritize and  prepare drilling prospects. Present technical recommendations to partners and management. This is an entry-level position from our college recruiting / internship program.

Position Overview:
Talon Metals Corp is seeking a Contract Geophysics Technician to support its exploration initiatives in Baraga County, Michigan. This role involves close collaboration with the geoscience team to execute geophysical surveys and data collection as part of ongoing drilling programs and resource expansion efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate geophysical survey equipment (e.g., magnetometers, EM systems, GPS).
  • Collect geophysical and field data with detailed documentation.
  • Support field logistics, including equipment transport and site preparation.
  • Perform data downloading, quality control, and basic analysis.
  • Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and field crews.
  • Drive safely to and from field sites.
  • Assist with camp and general field operations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience preferred in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and hike in rugged terrain.
  • Comfortable working in remote outdoor environments, including near rivers, wetlands, and forests.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and maintain data.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to commute or temporarily stay near the Michigan project site.
