General Summary

This position will support the growing aggregate, materials and paving businesses found within the Granite Companies of Memphis Stone and Gravel, Lehman-Roberts and Dickerson & Bowen. This role will be hired as a Memphis Stone & Gravel employee and will contribute to designing and developing safe and efficient mine plans for existing and future aggregate operations including phased mine development, processing and reclamation to maximize the mineral resource value. Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Systematically upgrade our mine plans across the Company through detailed analysis on mining methods, modeling, and integration of geologic data to maximize reserves, efficiency, safety and profitability.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement of our materials operations by identifying, leading and participating in improvement projects to help make them more efficient in delivering consistent financial performance and building shareholder value.
  • Develop short and long term mining plans that transfer to field operations as tools for removing overburden, mine development, reclamation, equipment selection, permitting, drainage, and waste management.
  • Support permitting efforts by creating application drawings or working with consultants to ensure the permitted mining and reclamation plans are in the best interest of Granite.
  • Conduct operational analysis including aggregate plant design, process equipment selection, layout, budgeting, and benchmarking to ensure efficient extraction of raw materials.
  • Develop and direct implementation of erosion controls, BMP’s, sediment and water retention basins; to include hydrologic evaluation(s) and levee and impound design and construction.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field required
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is desired.

Work Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in short and long term mine planning preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience with aggregate plant equipment (fixed and rolling stock).
  • 1-2 years of experience in construction materials or geotechnical fields
  • Background in Continuous Improvement is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in communicating complex problem/findings to mid and upper level management.
  • Proficiency in ESRI products including ArcGis, ArcView and AutoCAD.
  • Experience using SURPAC, MINESCHED, AggFlow and/or other modeling software would be a plus.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator or other graphics software.
  • Capable of measuring mining equipment performance and evaluation of cycle times.

Position Overview

Position Overview

As a member of the aggregate production team, this position will be responsible for monitoring aggregate production and planning, including surveying, developing extraction methods for overseeing the drilling and blasting contractors.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Working with management in facilitating surveys, plans and development around our aggregate production. Using Drones and collaborating with the team to verify inventories on a monthly basis.
  • Collaborates and conducts with others geographical exploration by reviewing maps and drilling logs to determine location, size, accessibility and estimated volumes of deposits.
  • Works with aggregate production team to develop methods to extract material, evaluating factors such as safety, operational costs, deposit characteristics and overburden depth.
  • Assists in laying out and directing mine construction operations, such as location and development of ramps and positioning of mining area, access roads and blast layout.
  • Assists in applying CRH blasting fundamentals for blast design and work with on site contractors for drilling and blasting operations.
  • Assists in determining long-range planning designs and data to determine proof of financial justification.
  • Will work with the team to ensure company compliance with mandated safety and environmental policies on all mining/material production practices.
  • Will work with company management and State and Federal agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and respond accordingly.

They will collaborate closely with contractors, the survey team, and mine operations to ensure alignment and timely execution. Field activities such as in-pit surveying, ore delivery coordination, and execution of mine projects will be supported. Overall, they will ensure a safe efficient, and cost-effective implementation of mining plans while maintaining alignment with long-range strategies developed by the technical team.
