Job Responsibilities:

  • Works without risk or harm to self or others
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures.
  • Driving to and from drill site to collect core samples
  • Preparing core samples
  • Preparing samples for dispatch
  • Ability to safely operate both on and off-road vehicles in hilly terrain in a mine environment.
  • Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Recognize, control, and communicate safety or environmental hazards.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Geology
  • Experience working in a core shed, preferred
  • The individual should demonstrate a high level of energy, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. throughout the day
  • Forklift experience, preferred
  • Previous experience working near a drill site, preferred
  • Previous mining experience, preferred
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of a team
  • Surface MSHA is required
  • Requires a valid driver’s license

General Duties:

  • Follow safety protocol in all situations
  • Collect soil samples
  • Locate and stake mining claims
  • Assist in geophysical surveys
  • Fencing and closure of hazards
  • Reclamation work associated with mineral exploration 
  • Accurate data collection and recording 
  • Navigate to remote areas using GPS and maps
  • Travel and camp in remote locations
  • Hike several miles a daily over steep and rugged terrain
  • Lift 80 lbs. and carry up to 50 lbs. for long distances
  • Operate ATVs and trucks safely
  • Work in adverse weather conditions
  • Function independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work a varying schedule several days in a row with long hours
  • Complete various tasks as assigned

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology preferred
  • Surface MSHA training preferred
  • First Aid/CPR training preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Strong problem-solving skills

What You’ll Do

As a Mining Geologist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the success of our mining operations through hands-on geological assessments, strategic planning, and operational excellence. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Guide Mining Operations: Conduct face mapping and grade control sampling to steer efficient resource extraction.
  • Optimize Resources: Perform monthly volume and quality reconciliations to maximize ore recovery.
  • Support Drilling Programs: Assist with planning and overseeing core drilling operations, including detailed core logging.
  • Update Geological Models: Collaborate with the Division Geologist to integrate new drilling and testing data into block models.
  • Survey and Plan: Conduct surveys and calculate ore volumes to support mine planning and operations.
  • Contribute to Mine Planning: Partner with the Senior Mine Engineer to develop short- and long-term mine plans.
  • Ensure Compliance: Assist with MSHA quarry inspections and maintain accurate records for compliance and operational tracking.
  • Drive Innovation: Evaluate and implement new technologies and methods for geological assessments and surveying.
  • Lead and Collaborate: Work closely with external consultants, provide leadership to hourly workforce as needed, and support operational and project management tasks.
  • Step Up When Needed: Occasionally manage day-to-day mining operations, including weekend rotations, in the absence of the Mine Supervisor.
  • Support Capital Projects: Assist with CapEx requests and project implementation to enhance operations.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for geology and a drive to improve mining processes. You bring:

  • Self-Starter Mindset: Ability to independently lead projects from concept to completion.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in geological mapping, sampling, and core logging techniques.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and experience with Microsoft Excel and mining software (e.g., ArcPro, AutoCAD, Leapfrog, Surpac, or Deswik preferred).
  • Leadership and Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, oversee contractors, and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic surface mine environment and driving operational efficiency.
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
    • Internship or at least 1 year of experience in a related industry/company.
    • Experience with core drilling/logging and Surface MSHA certification are a plus.
