Chee-Wooi Ten (Electrical and Computer Engineering) was recently awarded a federal passthrough grant through Iowa State University and the Department of Energy to work with several regional and national partners to establish a regional cybersecurity center. This cybersecurity center will aim to develop effective and comprehensive securities algorithms and tools to improve security and resilience of advanced power systems.
Other project partners include the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Minnesota, two DOE national laboratories, and regional utilities.
Several project partners bring expertise in rural energy issues, which is key for implementing next-generation grid infrastructure.
After Dr. Ten and his team develop valuable cybersecurity assets, their findings will be integrated into education and workforce development programs.
These assets will be able to support high integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), which can operate as microgrids.
For a greener and more resilient future, advanced power networks like microgrid-integrated distribution systems and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are paving the way towards smarter energy management and sustainability
