Critical Thinking / Social Responsibility Lists

2nd Year Core – Critical and Creative Thinking list (was HUFA or Goal 4)

2nd Year Core – Social Responsibility and Ethical Reasoning (was SBS or Goal 8)

Choose one course from each list – required for students who began fall 2015 or later.

These lists are included in your degree audit report under General Education.

Review your degree audit as soon as you register, and ensure you selected valid courses.


Language Course Placement & Advising

If you believe you are due placement credits after completing a language class, see your language instructor to process them and get them on your record. A grade of B or higher is required in your placement course.

General Education Changes

Students who began prior to Fall 2013:

The last offerings of UN1001, UN1002, UN1003, UN2001, and UN2002 were Summer 2013. Transfer credit may be used for UN1001, UN1002, UN2001, and/or UN2002 if you miss a UN course. UN1003 and first-year language courses are offered in summer.

2012 Freshmen will take UN1015 in place of UN2001, and take an SBS course in place of UN2002. Update your flowcharts accordingly.

Students using catalog year 2012-2013 or earlier:
If you missed UN1001, Perspectives, Take a course from the HUFA List in place of UN1001:
FA2330, FA2520, FA3820, HU2130, HU2501, HU2538, HU2700, HU2820, or HU2910

If you missed UN1002 or did not take UN1003 and 1st language course by summer 2013:
Take UN1025, Global Issues, or use the new modern language rule in place of World Cultures/Global Issues. (students may take one level 3000 or higher language course in place of UN1002/UN1025 beginning fall 2013. 1 credit free elective needed.)

If you missed UN2001, Composition, take UN1015, Composition.

If you missed UN2002, Institutions, take one course from the SBS List in place of UN2002:
EC2001, PSY2000, SS2100, SS2200, SS2400, SS2500, SS2501-SS2505, SS2600, SS2700


HASS HUFA SBS Lists

HASS distribution course list can be found on the Registrar’s website, the General Education website and the ECE undergraduate Advising page.

May use one HUFA course in place of UN1001:

HASS for CpE majors

CpE majors must complete one of the following as part of HASS electives to graduate if using catalog years 2005-2006 through 2012-2013. Does not apply to students using catalog years 2013-2014 and beyond.
Recently added classes are not listed on older flowcharts and degree audits may need a substitution by the advisor.  Do not take SS3640 if you already took a HASS Supplemental course.
