Michigan Tech’s iconic husky dog statue is turning one year old. Join us at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, for a special celebration. Members of the Pep Band will be on hand to play the birthday song and help mark the first anniversary of the statue’s dedication. The event is also a great way to thank Joan and (the late) Dan Lorenzetti, whose generosity made the husky statue a reality.
A Musical Sampler will whet your eclectic musical taste buds! Ever wonder what the choirs at Michigan Tech sound like? Want to mash up an evening of Jazz and Wind Symphony? This Saturday night at the Rozsa, you have your chance to sample a bit of each all in one evening.
Michigan Tech’s department of visual and performing arts presents “A Musical Sampler, a celebration of music at Michigan Tech.”
The concert will feature the Jazz Lab Band, the Superior Wind Symphony, Concert Choir, conScience and the jazz ensemble AstroSax. The show will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets for the Musical Sampler concert are on sale now, $13 for adults, $5 for youth, and no charge for Michigan Tech students with the Experience Tech fee. Tickets are available by phone at 7-2073, online at Rozsa.mtu.edu, or in person at the Central Ticketing Office in the Student Development Complex.

Just Jazz Guitar Online features the greatest players, educators and writers in the field of jazz.
The Portage Lake District Library invites everyone to bring their lunch and enjoy “Music on the Menu,” an outdoor series of events held on the dock outside the library tomorrow.
Libby Meyer (VPA) will be joined by Copper Country Suzuki Association fiddlers from noon to 1 p.m. They will perform traditional Irish jigs, hornpipes and reels. The audience is welcome to dance.
Everyone is invited to bring their lunch and relax while listening to some great music. In the event of bad weather, the program will be held inside the library.

The Rozsa Center and Visual and Performing Arts 2015/16 season presents a little something for everyone. The season includes more than 39 events, encompassing film, lectures, music, art gallery exhibitions, dance and more. From Shakespeare and ballet, to comedy and jazz, Rozsa shows will entertain all tastes and ages. The season even includes an opportunity for local young dancers to perform alongside professional ballet dancers in The Nutcracker.

The Vice President for Research Office announces the Research Excellence Fund Awards. Thanks to the volunteer review committees, as well as the deans and department chairs, for their time spent on this important internal research award process.

Keweenawesomefest is an annual two-day music festival hosted by WMTU 91.9 FM. The event takes place in the McArdle Theatre on the second floor of the Walker Arts and Humanities Center on the Michigan Tech campus.
Beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow, the evening will feature five local DJs in a night of electronic music. On Saturday, a variety of bands will perform including: Flitch, Ladders, The Lately, Valentiger and headliner Flint Eastwood. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert should finish up around midnight.
Members of WMTU staff and Michigan Tech’s Visual and Performing Arts majors are in charge of creating an amazing experience with projections, fancy lighting, awesome sound and the live video and audio stream of the event on WMTU’s website.
Tickets are $3 for one night or $5 for both nights. Tickets will be available at the door or for advance purchase from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the MUB Commons by the food court.
