As a result of Dr. Koubek’s email to campus regarding the Governor’s executive order, I am cancelling all use reservations in the calendar this afternoon. We will be ready to begin again after we return from the stay at home 3 weeks from now.
FIB in Electron Optics
Charlene will start today with prep and finish tomorrow.
A part failed in the deposition gun – the depo gun is unusable. I ordered the repair part but it might take up to 80 days to arrive.
The FIB can be used for milling but we cannot do any lift-out work until the depo gun is working.
The manufacturer is coming to service the FESEM next week. The work will begin Monday night and the microscope will be down until Thursday or Friday. The FIB will also be serviced while he is here but that will not affect most of you.
I’m planning to install the SEM stage on the FIB this Friday afternoon and I’ll need to do a week of work with it. Please let me know right away if that will cause you a problem.
IT has rewritten the logbook system software. There are some great new features that we will appreciate. It isn’t ready for installation – on some systems we are going to have to upgrade the thin clients (little computer boxes) to use a newer web browser. We’ll do initial testing on the FIB since it gets less use. These instruments will be upgraded

ESEM
Confocal (has newer client – may not need upgrading)
STEM (has newer client – may not need upgrading)
I’ll let you now when we are testing on the FIB.
I installed and tested the FIB manipulator this morning. It all seems to be working correctly.
I can begin taking samples for the TEM now.
I’m installing a part on the micromanipulator with phone help from the manufacturer. The FIB will be offline for a couple of days. I’ll let you know when we are up again.
The FIB logbook system is working again. Let me know if you need help with it.
