I will loosen up the 2 hour time limit constraints on SEM sign-up time to 4 hours. The only problem we have ever had is when users block large blocks of time for several days during a week. We need to make sure that everyone has access to the SEMs when needed.
Remember that evening hours are available to unrestricted users (who have swipe access to the lab doors).
The 6400 and JEOL TEM are still down.
TEM
Our engineer is sending me a circuit board to try in the TEM. If we are lucky that is all it is we will be back online.
6400
There is a power supply problem that I am working on. Not an easy fix.
So repairs to both instruments are on going.
The 6400 is back online and ready to use. I don’t have a lot of faith that this was a permanent fix since this has happened several times. Get your work done now!
Problem with gun alignment is back. Scope can’t be used. I’ll get on it Monday.
The 6400 is working now. I pulled and re-seated circuit boards and it began working again. Not sure how long it will work but let’s use it.
Same problem with gun alignment error. I’ll work on it tomorrow morning.
I got the system working again this morning. It is okay to use it. The problem was that the gun alignment would go wonky and signal would drop to zero – no SE image. If you see anything like this stop and let me know.
There is a problem with the gun alignment circuit. I let you know how the repair goes.
IT has rewritten the logbook system software. There are some great new features that we will appreciate. It isn’t ready for installation – on some systems we are going to have to upgrade the thin clients (little computer boxes) to use a newer web browser. We’ll do initial testing on the FIB since it gets less use. These instruments will be upgraded

Confocal (has newer client – may not need upgrading)

I’ll let you now when we are testing on the FIB.
