AFM repairs are completed. Dr. Leftwich was able to repair the Fiber-lite.
AFM in Scanning Probe Microscopy
There is an issue with the Fiber-lite on the AFM. The instrument is offline until we’re able to fix the issue. It may just need a new bulb.
The AFM is online and available for use.
Due to the intermittent power outages, in addition to the planned power outages, ACMAL will be closed for the remainder of this week. The Confocal Imaging Facility (CIF), will be available unless there is another unplanned power outage during the day.
The X-ray facility will be open beginning Friday morning. All other facilities will be opening next week. Just a reminder, the FIB and FESEM annual maintenance will be occurring next week (5/9 – 5/11).
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please note that the ACMAL reservation limit for the Origin+ Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) has been extended from 4 hours to 6 hours during normal business hours. The updated policy can be found on the reservations page of our website.
Trained users may reserve instruments during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Monday through Friday. Reservations outside of normal business hours require special permission.
During working hours, do not exceed a four hour reseservation on instruments except the Origin+ Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). AFM reservations should not exceed 6 hours. Longer reservations are available with permission.
If you have any questions please let me know.
10:18 a.m. The AFM is down due to an issue with the AFM head cable.
12:59 p.m. The AFM is back online. Aleister was able to successfully run a test sample.
The AFM and FIB will be unavailable today and tomorrow, July 13th and July14th. We are working on repairing the FIB.
Thank you for understanding,
As a result of Dr. Koubek’s email to campus regarding the Governor’s executive order, I am cancelling all use reservations in the calendar this afternoon. We will be ready to begin again after we return from the stay at home 3 weeks from now.
We are beginning something new with AFM training. We have used up all the cantilevers that came with the AFM so we have no more to use in training. We will charge for the cost of a cantilever to be used in training. Now, the AFM training cost is $21 for a cantilever plus $12/hr labor. We will need an account index for these charges before work can begin.
Let me know if you have questions.
The illuminator bulb is replaced.
