The FESEM EDS system has been repaired and is available for use.
My apologies for the delay in repairing this detector. The original manufacturer has gone out of business so we have to work with a third party company which has limited availability.

My apologies for the delay in repairing this detector. The original manufacturer has gone out of business so we have to work with a third party company which has limited availability.
The FESEM is available for imaging, but the EDS system is not currently working.
I’m happy to report the FESEM is back online. The repairs were completed this morning and the instrument can be reserved as soon as this afternoon.
Unfortunately the service engineer couldn’t complete the repairs this week and will be returning next week.
Hitachi will be on site tomorrow to repair the issue. We hope to have the FESEM back online soon.
The FESEM has a vacuum issue and won’t be available for use until we can repair this. I have calls out to our service engineers and hope to know more soon.
I was able to replace the rod and the issue is resolved.
Please don’t ever force anything on the microscopes. If there is an issue you can call me. If I’m not available you can send me an email and I will take care of it as soon as I can.
The FESEM is down. The specimen exchange rod has been bent making it almost impossible to load a sample.
I am out of the office today Friday 7/22. Also, I will be out of the office starting July 28th and returning August 15th. During my absence I will be monitoring email, but my response will be delayed. Below are the contacts if you need assistance with instruments in the Electron Optics Facility or the Scanning Probe Microscopy Facility.

In case of an emergency call public safety.
Yesterday we completed the maintenance on the FESEM & FIB. The instruments are available for use.
Due to the intermittent power outages, in addition to the planned power outages, ACMAL will be closed for the remainder of this week. The Confocal Imaging Facility (CIF), will be available unless there is another unplanned power outage during the day.
The X-ray facility will be open beginning Friday morning. All other facilities will be opening next week. Just a reminder, the FIB and FESEM annual maintenance will be occurring next week (5/9 – 5/11).
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Next week, the HITACHI technician will be on campus to perform an annual preventative maintenance check on the FESEM and FIB. The instruments will be unavailable during that time. If all as planned they will be available for reservation starting on Thursday May 12th.
Also, we will begin our end of semester lab cleaning next Wednesday. Any unlabeled samples will be disposed of.
