Job Posting: Harmon, Inc (Career Fair)

 

I graduated from Michigan Tech in Fall 2014 from the Civil Engineering department and I am up for the Career Fair with my company Harmon Inc. We are in the Curtain Wall and Glazing Industry which is basically the glass on skyscrapers and large buildings.

We are looking for 6 Contract Project Management Interns (Locations: Atlanta and/or Orlando, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale, Seattle )1 Engineering Intern (Location: Minneapolis) 1 Manufacturing intern (Location: Baltimore).  If you relocate for the internship, we will provide housing.

I have attached a job description of the manufacturing, engineering, and project management internships along with an “Internship Info” flyer. Additionally, I have attached a “Harmon Internship Experiences” document that is an excerpt from our monthly HarmonLinc that is sent out company wide.

Four out of the nine interns we had this summer were from Michigan Tech.

We are looking for the following majors:

We are looking for candidates who are good communicators, decisions makers, problem solvers, organized, and detail-oriented.  Our preferred minimum GPA requirement for all positions is 3.0.

I personally did 3 internships as a project management intern while attending Michigan Tech with Harmon Inc. working in Baltimore, Dallas, and Cincinnati. I have now been working full time for Harmon for almost 3 years out of the Baltimore office.

Business Careers Day-Sept 25

All students are cordially invited to join the School of Business and Economics for Business Careers Day at the CareerFEST Tent on Monday, September 25 from 11 a.m-2 p.m.   Also join us for the Business After Hours Social from 4-6 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge (MUB).

Registration for Railroad Night XIII and Rail Day & Expo 2017 has officially opened!

Presented by the Railroad Engineering & Activities Club (REAC), this is our showcase event that brings rail industry companies from all over to our very own Michigan Tech. Interact with rail industry employers in a casual environment, which also includes a sit-down dinner and a fascinating keynote! Plus, students will have a chance to win one of many door and raffle prizes during the event – which is covered by our modest $5 registration fee.

This is THE opportunity to ask questions of industry people, build out your network, and of course have fun. This is an exciting event which only comes around once per year!

Tennessee Department of Transportation has an opening for a Graduate Transportation Associate  (GTA) position, TDOT’s title for recently-graduated engineers.   They are looking for a December graduate to help manage their statewide pavement program.

Job duties will include assisting with managing their strategy for selection of paving projects through network-level pavement management and making sure they deliver paving projects with accurate plans and specifications within budget. TDOT’s annual Resurfacing budget is currently $227-million, which doesn’t include widening or new construction, so the level of work can be very interesting!

Wastewater/Water and Municipal Staff Engineer Positions

Town & Country Engineering, Inc., a Consulting Engineering Firm providing Municipal, Water and Wastewater Engineering Services for over 30 years, is seeking a Wastewater/Water and a Municipal Staff Engineer to join our Engineering Team.

As a Wastewater Staff Engineer, a candidate will be involved in a full range of wastewater planning, design, and operation services. Responsibilities will include working with project engineers, project managers, and clients on:

  • Assessing existing wastewater treatment facilities for proposed upgrades to equipment and systems.
  • Manage and establish work priorities on a daily basis for multiple projects.
  • Work with a senior level engineer to evaluate, select, and apply various wastewater/water technologies, equipment, and processes, in order to detect ways to improve performance and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Construction management and inspection.
  • Attending client meetings.

The successful candidate for the Wastewater Staff Engineer position should have the following requirements:

  • Have taken extensive courses relating to water and wastewater engineering, hydraulics, biology, and other related courses.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be capable of working efficiently with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal staff.
  • Any experience in the wastewater industry will be a benefit.

As a Municipal Staff Engineer, a candidate will be involved in full range of municipal public works analysis, design, construction, and operation services.  Responsibilities will include working with project engineers, project managers, and clients on:

  • Utility design
  • Street design
  • Stormwater design and management
  • Construction administration
  • Plat and development plan review
  • New client development and acting as client liaison                                                                                                     

The successful candidate for the Municipal Staff Engineer position should have the following requirements:

  • Have taken extensive courses relating to stormwater, transportation, and other related courses.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be capable of working efficiently with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal staff.
  • Any experience in the public works sector will be a benefit.
