Job Posting: Timiny R/R Construction Inc.

Timiny RR Construction Inc. is searching for young people interested in or looking for a career in the construction industry.

We have openings in Toledo, Ohio and Cleveland – our geographic presence covers 7 states.

Pending the individual, we have field positions open and office environment positions with up to 50% travel required.

My job is to provide a platform for all employees to succeed and simultaneously make sure they are aware it is up to them to create additional opportunities for themselves.

As most companies, personal drive and determination exhibited will determine investment we are willing to make on their behalf.

We are a small company so there is substantial exposure to all aspects of the industry vs getting stuck doing takeoffs or singular task assignments (I had a few of your interns while at Kiewit).

The Keweenaw’s 2nd Annual Waste Reduction Drive

The MTU Sustainability Demonstration House recently launched the Keweenaw’s 2nd Annual Waste Reduction Drive.  We are collecting even more items than last year to divert from the landfill: dental products, disposable razors, plastic films, plastic bottle caps & rings, egg cartons, and foil-lined snack wrappers.  For each of these items, we found a unique recycle or reuse opportunity.   Our flyer is attached and the official guidebook can be found here (there is also a link for the guidebook on the flyer).  We would love to see our entire department participating in this event!

Scholarship: ITE International Student Paper Award

Good morning and happy New Year to all!

During the SCAN event held in October of 2020 there was a discussion about what students could do to better prepare themselves for their role in the construction industry. One topic that was raised repeatedly was to enhance their communication. To assist students, and others throughout the industry, AGC Michigan will be forming one or more Toastmasters clubs.  Membership in an AGC Michigan Toastmasters club is open to AGC members and student chapter members at Michigan Universities.

Toastmastersis a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Membership in  a club helps improve public speaking skills, build leadership skills, maximize your potential, enjoy personal growth; work on networking in a small and supportive environment; practice writing speeches and presenting in a group setting; gain a competitive advantage in the workplace; build self-confidence and self-awareness. In addition, joining an AGC Michigan Toastmasters club will allow you the opportunity to networking with industry professionals at all levels within their organizations.

Toastmaster’s has pathways of study for members that include Dynamic Leadership; Effective Coaching; Engaging Humor; Innovative Planning; Leadership Development; Motivational Strategies; Persuasive Influence; Presentation Mastery; Strategic Relationships; Team Collaboration; and Visionary Communication. Each pathways walks the participant through an online learning deck, plus activities to deliver speeches. Most take a minimum of 6 months to complete. The first pathway is free with membership.

Please join us on Friday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m. for a free introduction to Toastmasters, a demo meeting, and a Q&A session. Find out if this might be the key to reaching your highest potential in the construction industry.

Click here  for additional information and to register. The registration deadline is Thursday, January 14.

Also, please remember that AGC Michigan Scholarship applications are due by January 31, 2021. To date we have received 9 applications. Since we typically award 10 scholarships annually, you have a pretty  good chance of receiving a scholarship!

Please feel free to share this information with other who might be interested in Toastmasters or a scholarship.

Thank you,

Viki
