Save the Date for Innovation Week 2023

January 17-20th, the second week of the spring semester, Husky Innovate will host innovation-themed talks and events including the Bob Mark Business Model Pitch Competition.  Started by Michigan Tech’s University Innovation Fellows (UIFs) in 2015, Innovation Week is a celebration of innovation across our Tech Community.  Students, faculty, staff, and community are invited.

Prague Study Abroad – Info session (Dec 8)

An information session regarding study abroad to Vienna, Prague, and Dresden will be on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5:30 pm in Rozsa 120.
This study abroad program will focus on imagination, creativity, theatre, arts, and architecture, with substantial time spent at the Prague Quadrennial, one of the largest theatre and design festivals in the world.

All of the courses offered will be HASS courses, and all majors are welcome on the trip. With the trip’s focus on design, architecture, and creativity, we think it may be both useful and exciting to students of many different majors. Email gordillo@mtu.edu with any questions.

About the Job:
Responsible for providing surveying and engineering services for FCPC’s public transportation corridors.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Assists with bid packages for projects including plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Aids with topographic surveys for design and other measurements.
  • Assists with roadway, sidewalk, trail, and storm sewer design.
  • Performs construction observation.
  • Performs construction materials sampling and testing.
  • Supports the Roads Program Manager with asset management including maintaining an inventory of and doing regular inspections of roadway features such as pavement condition, culvert pipes, signing, storm sewer, pavement marking, lighting, and traffic counts.
  • Assists the Roads Program Manager with the completion of Department projects, projects for other departments, and Tribal Member Services.


Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:

  • Enrollment in an accredited university’s Bachelor of Science program for civil engineering.
  • The completion of one year of college at an accredited university BS of civil engineering program.
  • Availability for spring, summer, and/or fall co-op work term. OR Availability for Summer 2023 co-op work term.

2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURFs)

Applications for 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURFs) are now open. Fellowship recipients will spend the summer working on an individual research project under the guidance of a Michigan Tech faculty mentor.

SURFs are open to all Tech undergraduates who have at least one semester remaining after the summer term. Awards are up to $4,000. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 10.

Students who have questions about the program or application process can take advantage of a virtual drop-in advising session with the SURF coordinator Robert Handler (ChE).
