2026 Los Alamos Dynamics Summer School

This summer, Los Alamos National Laboratory will be hosting the twenty-seventh edition of the Los Alamos Dynamics Summer School (LADSS) – a 10-week research and education program held in Los Alamos, NM.  Links to more information are available at https://ladss.lanl.gov, including payment information for the fellowship appointment and instructions on how to apply.

We are seeking students with academic focuses in engineering (including mechanical, aerospace, structural, civil, electrical, and nuclear), as well as those in computer science, physics, and applied math. Please pass this solicitation on to prospective students and directly encourage those which you feel are well suited for the program to apply. Offer letters will be given to accepted applicants on a rolling basis throughout the early application period, so we encourage students to apply early to have the greatest chance of securing a position in the program.

LADSS aims to motivate U.S. citizens to attend graduate school and establish a pipeline for LANL career opportunities. Therefore, the students you solicit need to be U.S. citizens (dual citizenship accepted), and they should be of sufficient academic standing to be credible candidates for graduate school. As a reference point, the 400+ students that have taken part in the first twenty-six schools had undergraduate GPA’s ranging from 3.0 – 4.0, with a mean undergraduate GPA of approximately 3.8.

If you have any questions about the summer school, please contact us at ladss@lanl.gov and we will be happy to answer them.

Thanks,

LADSS Co-Leads

Costa Rica study away- Summer 2026

As students are considering spring and summer schedules, we’d like to share information about the faculty-led summer Track A program to Costa Rica. Students can earn 9-10 credits that meet Essential Ed or HASS/PE requirements. Please reach out to Richelle Winkler (rwinkler@mtu.edu) with questions or to discuss options. For students who need an internship instead of Essential Ed courses, there is potential for that with consent of instructor and our local partner the Monteverde Institute.

Costa Rica summer 2026 study away program is a chance to earn 9-10 credits in almost 6 weeks abroad in summer Track A 2026. Courses include: SS 3960 (Cultural Immersion- an Experience course), SS4390 (Seminar in Sustainability), and SS3260 (Latin American Cultural History- an Intercultural Competency course), plus Hiking and Yoga options. All levels of Spanish speakers are welcome. Students live in homestays with local families in the Monteverde region (on top of a mountain in the cloud forest), and have opportunities to engage with students at the University of Costa Rica in San Jose. The program is based on experiential learning – with dozens of field trips, dozens of local speakers, and hands-on activities like reforestation activities, processing coffee and sugar cane, and collecting water quality data. There are significant focuses on conservation, tropical ecology, and renewable energy. This program is in partnership with the Monteverde Institute and supports local community initiatives in the Monteverde region.

Come to the Info Session Nov 11, 6-7pm in EERC 216. Pizza provided. Or contact Richelle Winkler, rwinkler@mtu.edu

Scholarship: WTBA

You’re on the road to a bright future.  Let us help you reach your destination.

Every year, WTBA awards two different types of scholarships to deserving college students studying in transportation construction industry fields.  Winners receive their scholarships during WTBA’s Contractor-Engineer Conference in January.

Why do we do it?  WTBA recognizes how much time, effort, and money students eyeing a career in transportation construction commit toward earning their degrees and beginning their careers.  Scholarships are both a celebration of that hard work and a helping hand to reach ultimate goals.
