Job Posting: MDOT

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer, located in Lansing, Michigan.

This position will function at the entry/intermediate/experienced level in the Pavement Management Section completing assisting with various assignments.  This position will investigate pavement construction information and review performance of existing pavements.  Download and organize pavement performance data.  Assist with life-cycle cost analysis and pavement performance curve development.  Gather construction materials data and organize for use with the mechanistic-empirical (ME) pavement design method.  Assist with field reviews of projects in the Pavement Demonstration Program.  Assist with analysis of data and writing of the annual report for the Pavement Demonstration Program.  Assist with oversight of the Pavement Historical Database (PHD).  This position will work with the Pavement Selection Engineer and Departmental Analyst to gather, enter and organize project construction data and pavement performance data for life-cycle cost analysis.  This position will work with the Pavement Design Program Engineer and Pavement Design Engineer to gather and organize data for use with the mechanistic-empirical pavement design method, and the annual review and reporting of pavement demonstration project performance.  This position will assist the Pavement Design Engineer with administration of the Pavement Historical Database including assisting with enhancements/improvements being implemented.  This position will work with the Pavement Evaluation Unit on collection of pavement data, operation of data collection vehicles/equipment, laboratory testing, and maintenance of equipment.

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering.

Note:  We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering or in civil and environmental engineering by May 31, 2019.

Function as a senior transportation engineer, completing or overseeing a variety of assignments in one or more specialized areas of traffic engineering involving traffic signals.  Review design plans of traffic signal construction for accuracy and completeness as prepared by consultant or in-house personnel.  Review base, preliminary, and Omission and Errors Check (OEC) plans prepared by the department or consultants.  Represent and serve as a signal systems design expert at meetings within the department or with representatives of local governmental units and interested citizens to explain the department’s policy regarding the use of electronic control devices.  Prepare and oversee preparation of survey requests.  This position oversees three regions of the state, North Region, Grand Region, and Southwest Region.
