The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking a Aviation Transportation Engineer.
This position functions as an airport development engineer in the Project Management Unit of the Office of Aeronautics. The primary duties of this position include assisting various airport owners with accomplishing a variety of development projects at their airports, and performing project management duties on select airport capital improvement projects on a statewide basis. Typical projects include development of new runways, runway and taxiway extensions, airfield pavement rehabilitations, airport lighting projects, electronic navigational aid projects, terminal building and aircraft hangar developments, and assisting airport sponsors with the acquisition of specialized airport equipment. The position is also responsible for designing and managing with assistance the statewide crack seal and pavement marking program.
Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering OR will obtain by May 31, 2020.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.

MSES is proud to announce the opening of its Annual Scholarship Program available to undergraduate students pursuing a major/career in any Minnesota transportation infrastructure related field. Financial awards for all winners will be applied to the 2020-2021 academic year.

New this year, all applications must be submitted through the available online form at mses.org here by Monday, February 3, 2020.
Schools are no longer required to collect applications or transcripts from students. We appreciate your continued assistance in advertising this opportunity to your students and helping to coordinate dates/locations for on-campus interviews if applicable.
Scholarship awards are based on a two-round determination process – written application and interview.
All written applications will be scored by MSES Scholarship Committee volunteers and top scoring applicants will be notified between February 17 – 21, 2020 to schedule an on-campus or online/phone interview between March 2 – 20, 2020.
On-campus interviews will be held at the following schools as long as there are 5 qualified applicants per school: University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, University of Minnesota – Duluth, Minnesota State University – Mankato, North Dakota State University, St. Cloud State University, University of St. Thomas. If the schools listed do not have 5 qualified applicants, online/phone interviews will be scheduled instead. Qualified students from other schools not listed will be asked to participate in an online/phone interview.
Scholarships of up to $2,000 will be awarded based on the cumulative score of the submitted application and interview.
All MSES scholarship winners will be announced by April 13, 2020.

Attached is the announcement from ITE for the Daniel Fambro Student paper award. As part of that, the Michigan Section also has a student paper contest this year with an award of $500 for first place and $300 for second. The rules for the Michigan award are the same as the National award. The deadline for submission is March 1 for both.

This position assists in coordinating and/or overseeing the development of traffic signing plans developed by the unit and consultants to ensure uniform and comprehensible visual systems for these devices.
