Steel Days – Environmental Engineering

My name is Steven Brandner.  I graduated from MTU in 2012 as an environmental engineer.

This week on campus is industry week and as a part of that various steel manufacturers will be holding a networking event on this Wednesday, Sept 20th.

If there are any environmental engineers who are interested in working with industry or want to learn more we will be having a panel discussion and I will be covering the environmental side of the business.

We will be holding the event in Dow 641 from 4:00-6:00.

I have attached a pamphlet for the event.

Please let me know if you have any questions, steven.brandner1@gerdau.com.

Thanks,

Steven Brandner

General Meeting: Women in Natural Resources (TONIGHT)

Women in Natural Resources is a new organization at Michigan Tech that aims to support women in the natural resources and environmental sciences through community, professional development, and mentorship. We are open to everyone that is interested in natural resources including students, faculty, staff, professionals, etc.
We are having our first meeting of the year and we would love to have you join us. There will be ice cream, socializing, and a little bit of discussion about some things we would like to do this year. The social will be in the atrium of the UJ Noblet forestry building on Thursday, September 14 at 7:00pm. It will be a great opportunity to meet people and get a feel for what the club is about.
If you can’t attend the meeting on Thursday but would like to know more send me an email (lejacobs@mtu.edu) and we will keep you in the loop.
I hope to see you there!

General Meeting: Steel Bridge (9/13)

Steel Bridge Info Meeting (Wednesday, 9/13 @ 6 PM)

The Steel Bridge Team will be hosting an informational meeting for anybody interested in learning what Steel Bridge is all about this Wednesday (9/13/16) at 6:00 PM in Dillman 202. There will also be a RAM (design software) Tutorial that follows in Dillman 211 beginning around 7:00 PM.

Steel Bridge is a team of first years through graduate students interested in applying principles taught in coursework to real life situations. The team receives parameters at the beginning of the school year, designs the bridge and all its components, fabricates it on campus, and then competes with the bridge regionally and nationally. The purpose of the competition is to build a bridge that is light, stiff, and fast to build. This past year we had the opportunity to travel to Corvallis, Oregon to compete against 43 other schools from across the world at the national competition bringing home 12th place overall.

Most members join with little to no design or shop experience, but everything is taught throughout the year, including welding! We are looking for anyone interested in gaining valuable experience in design software, metal fabrication, problem solving, or team building skills. Companies like to see and talk about this experience, as it s a great way to improve your team work and leadership skills. We are open to every department, so bring your friends too! If you are unable to make it to the meeting at 6:00 PM, or the design tutorial at 7:00 PM and would like more information please feel free to email the Team Captain, Greg Naghtin, at ganaghti@mtu.edu. We hope to see you there!

Enterprise Day – Sept 13

Attached is a poster for our upcoming Enterprise Day on Sept. 13. Please encourage interested students to stop by.
As a reminder, Enterprise is open to ALL majors and promotes multi/interdisciplinary, team-based learning. Recruiters and employers often seek out Enterprise graduates for their experience and well-rounded skill set, hence our decision to hold the event in conjunction with the CareerFEST activities.

General Meeting: Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (9/12)

On Tuesday, September 12th at 7pm, Michigan Tech’s Railroad Engineering and Activities Club will be hosting our first meeting of the year, in Fisher Room 101.
Join us as several REAC members present their experiences interning in the railroad industry. Come find out what it takes, what they did, and learn some tips and pointers on how you can go about and lock down your own internships for the coming summer.
We’ll also have discussions about our upcoming Railroad Night and Railroad Expo, which are on October 3rd and 4th, respectively.
For new students or members, this is an excellent opportunity to join the club, meet like-minded students, and meet the faculty leading the way in Michigan Tech’s Railroad Transportation Program!
Pizza and refreshments will be served, so bring your appetite and learn about joining the railroad industry, one of the world’s oldest and most influential industries.
From Civil Engineering to Computer Science, there’s probably a job in the industry for your major!
See you there!
