Since it began in 2000, Michigan Tech’s Design Expo has been a nexus of student innovation and industry collaboration. This year’s event marks the 25th anniversary of more than 1,000 Enterprise and Senior Design students showcasing their designs and demonstrating their real-world problem-solving skills to the community, industry partners, and Michigan Tech faculty and staff. The Enterprise Program is looking for individuals to volunteer as distinguished Design Expo judges.
Design Expo judges have the opportunity to witness firsthand the tenacity and ingenuity of Michigan Tech students and to help determine the competition winners. The best Design Expo judges can come from anywhere: Michigan Tech faculty, staff, alumni and friends, local community members, industry representatives, and anyone with an interest in supporting our students as they engage in hands-on, discovery-based learning.
Design Expo 2025, hosted by the Enterprise Program and the College of Engineering, will be held on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, in the Van Pelt Opie Library first floor and Memorial Union Building ballroom. Judges must be available for the duration of the event and also be able to review team materials prior to Design Expo.
Each judge will be assigned three to five teams to score. They’ll review and score team videos over a two-day period, from Monday, April 14 to Tuesday, April 15, using an electronic ballot sent via email and/or text message. Judges will then evaluate and score their same assigned teams during the in-person event on Tuesday, April 15.
Judges are also invited to attend the Design Expo reception, closing remarks and awards, and the after-event social at Keweenaw Brewing Company.
