Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer I or II to join our team. The successful candidate will review and manage slope stability data collection and analysis of geologic structure, blast design, and slope monitoring.

Responsibilities:

Review and manage slope stability data collection and analysis of geologic structure, blast design, and slope monitoring
Inspection and communication of pit and dump inspection results
Clear and concise communication of geotechnical information to site personnel
Proactive improvement of processes related to slope monitoring and slope design
Understand use of surface stability and geologic modeling software programs
Understanding of 3-D geologic model inputs and development, and impacts on slope stability
Must be able to work in a team environment
Ability to work safely and recognize hazards
Other duties as assigned
Qalifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering or related field preferred
0 – 3 years hands-on geotechnical experience at an active open pit mine site preferred
Knowledge of open pit mining principles

Position Summary

We are seeking a Staff Level Geotechnical Engineers for our Mining Design & Technical Services group based in Denver, Colorado. This entry-level position would support ongoing mining services for tailings and heap leach projects within the USA as well as in international locations. The selected candidate would become part of a small geotechnical technical services group and support project-related work. Additional professional experiences and project support would include geotechnical site assessments and associated field services, development of soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure, dam breach evaluations, and stability and deformation analyses, among other work. The position is meant to be dynamic, working across multiple design teams (civil, hydrogeological, etc.) and a variety of tasks. The professional development of the successful candidate will be promoted with the goal of transitioning additional responsibilities to the candidate in the future.

This position requires superior written and verbal communication skills to interface with staff personnel, clients, and vendors effectively. An employee in this position is expected to work as a member of diverse project teams and accomplish specific tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  Position Responsibilities

· Support ongoing EOR services for tailings and heap leach projects within the USA as well as international locations. 

· Report directly to an existing EOR and quickly become integrated into future design work, as well as systematic monitoring and surveillance activities. 

· Complete geotechnical site assessments and associated field services for the development of mining infrastructure.

· Support initial and ongoing material characterization activities, including gathering field data, designing and overseeing laboratory programs, interpreting laboratory data, and developing appropriate constitutive models.

· Perform stability and deformation analyses for the mining infrastructure, including tailings storage facilities and heap leach pads.

· Develop soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure.

· Assist with tailings dam breach evaluations.

· Work with and provide training to junior engineers. 

· Assist with generating design drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D. 

Requirements:

· Education: Master of Science (preferred); Bachelor of Science (considered). Civil Engineering degrees from ABET-accredited universities are preferred. Alternative degrees (e.g., Geologic Engineering, Mining Engineering) will be considered based on relevant coursework.

· Professional Experience: 0+ for Entry-Level.

· Computer Software: Significant experience with MS Office Suite. Some experience using standard geotechnical design software (Rocscience, GeoStudios, etc.); numerical modeling experience is advantageous; and basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.

· Geotechnical Laboratory: Proficient with standard material testing and index tests. 

· Required Registrations / Professional Development: Successful completion of FE Exam.

· Travel: Must have the ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally to support field programs.

· Physical Demands: The position may require sitting for extended periods of time, extended hours working on a computer, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery, and a variety of standard geotechnical tools.

· Technical writing: Proficiency in technical writing is expected.

· Other (Project Level): Working knowledge of geotechnical monitoring instrumentation; various geotechnical tools for subsurface assessments (drilling methods; CPT; geophysics, etc.); numerical modeling methods and software.
