Global Grant Scholarship

The Rotary District 6220 Global Scholar Program provides $30,000 scholarship awards for graduate studies outside the USA.  Scholars must commence studies between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016 and expend the scholarship funds within 12 months of starting studies.

In anticipation of The Rotary Foundation’s (TRF) 100-year anniversary in 2017, the TRF Trustees set out to develop a plan to move the foundation toward its second century of service. The plan, called the Future Vision Plan, focuses TRF-funded programs to specific areas where they will have the greatest impact by addressing priority world needs that are presently most relevant to Rotarians.

As a result, to be eligible for a Rotary District 6220 Global Grant Scholarship, an applicant must have a background, intended graduate studies and future career plans related to at least one of the following focus areas:

  • Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
  • Disease Prevention and Treatment
  • Water and Sanitation
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Basic Education and Literacy
  • Economic and Community Development

Prequalification Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2015.
Further information, including the “Prequalification Application,” and additional requirements, can be found on the District 6220 website.

Research Data Alliance/US Call for Fellows

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) invites applications for its newly redesigned fellowship program. The program’s goal is to engage early career researchers in the US in RDA, a dynamic and young global organization that seeks to eliminate the technical and social barriers to research data sharing.
WHAT: The successful Fellow will engage in the RDA through a 12-18 month project under the guidance of a mentor from the RDA community. Fellows receive a stipend ($5000 each summer) and travel support and must be currently employed or appointed at a US institution.
WHO: Fellows are sought from a variety of backgrounds: communications, social, natural and physical sciences, business, informatics, and computer science. The RDA Data Share program will look for a T-shaped skill set, where early signs of cross discipline competency are combined with evidence of teamwork and communication skills, and a deep competency in one discipline.
Eligibility: Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers at institutions of higher education in the United States, and early career researchers at U.S.-based research institutions who graduated with a relevant master’s or PhD and are no more than three years beyond receipt of their degree.  Applications from traditionally underserved populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Deadline: April 16, 2015

Federal Postdoc Award Opportunity for Solar Energy Researchers

In order to spur innovation in solar energy, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is now accepting applications for postdoctoral researchers in solar energy to participate in the EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards.
This research will contribute to the SunShot Initiative goal to make solar energy technologies cost-competitive with traditional energy sources by 2020. Reducing the total installed cost for utility‐scale solar electricity by approximately 75%, from the 2010 baseline, to roughly $0.06 per kWh without subsidies will enable rapid, large‐scale adoption of solar electricity across the United States.

Potential research topics for these awards include behavioral and data science to lower solar electricity cost, systems integration, concentrating solar power, and photovoltaic cells, modules, and materials.

Who: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, complete all requirements for their Ph.D. by May 31, 2015, and have a Ph.D. for no more than five years.
What: The awards will provide a highly competitive two-year stipend with health insurance as well as allowance for travel, relocation, and research expenses.
When: The application period for the EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards closes on May 7, 2015. The awards will be announced in July 2015 for the projects to start in September 2015. Apply today and learn more about former awardees.
