Summer ORISE Fellowhip Opportunity at CDC

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), Division ofLaboratory Sciences (DLS), is seeking Summer ORISE Fellows to focus on public health issues related to the environment.  Candidates will join projects associated with developing and applying new methods to characterize and quantitate biochemicalmarkers that are relevant in environmental exposures and chronic diseases.

The fellowship carries a stipend of approximately $2,700 per month for full-time undergraduate student fellows and $3,300 for full-time graduate student fellows.

NASA announces a call for graduate fellowship proposals to the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (NESSF) program for the 2014-2015 academic year.  This call for fellowship proposals solicits applications from accredited U.S. universities on behalf of individuals pursuing Master of Science (M.Sc.) or Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Earth and space sciences, or related disciplines.

The deadline for NEW applications is February 3, 2014, and the deadline for RENEWAL applications is March 17, 2014.

100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund grant competition

Partners of the Americas, NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and the U.S. Department of State are pleased to announce two new grant competitions as part of President Barack Obama’s 100,000 Strong in the Americas Initiative.

100,000 Strong in the Americas is the administration’s signature education initiative in the Western Hemisphere designed to foster region-wide prosperity through increased higher education collaboration.  The first round of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund grant competition is NOW OPEN for eligible higher educational institutions.

There are three steps to apply:

1.) Read the RFP for information and determine that your institution is eligible

  • RFP 1 (Sponsored by the US Department of State): Capacity-Building Program to Reach 100k Strong. Institutions in the following countries may apply:  Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Mexico.
  • RFP 2 (Sponsored by Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation): Promoting Study Abroad in STEM and Sustainable Development. Institutions in the following countries may apply:  Chile, Peru, United States.

2.) Join the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Network

3.) Apply via the online grant application before the deadline(s) listed

  • RFP 1 – November 8, 2013 / 5:00 PM US Eastern Standard Time
  • RFP 2 – November 8, 2013 / 5:00 PM US Eastern Standard Time

For institutions not eligible for Round 1, you may still Join the Innovation Network to receive the latest information about new competitions.  One application per institution per round.  Institutions may apply for multiple rounds.

Please note: The Innovation Fund provides grants to institutions; it does not provide individual scholarships or accept applications from individuals.

Chateaubriand Fellowship Program

The STEM Chateaubriand Fellowship targets outstanding PhD students enrolled in an American university who wish to conduct part of their doctoral research in a French laboratory for a 4 to 9 month period.  The Office of Science and Technology provide a stipend of up to 1,400 €/month (depending on other sources of funding) and cover the cost of travel and student health insurance.

STEM Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition.  Priority is given to candidates working toward a “double degree” (cotutelle) with their host institution.

All Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) and Health disciplines are eligible. The required level of French remains at the discretion of the host laboratory.

The application deadline is January 31, 2014, for a stay which can begin from September 1, 2014 to April 1, 2015.

The Department of Energy (DOE) Scholars Program is now accepting applications for Summer 2014.

The DOE Scholars Program offers unique opportunities that introduce students or post-graduates to the agency’s mission and operations. Participants in the DOE Scholars Program gain a competitive edge as they apply their education, talent and skills in a variety of scientific research settings within the DOE complex. Appointments are available in a variety of disciplines at participating DOE facilities nationwide.

Michigan Space Grant Consortium Funding Opportunities

The Michigan Space Grant Consortium announces funding opportunities in the following categories: Undergraduate Fellowship, Graduate Fellowship, Pre-College Education, Public Outreach, Teacher Training, and Research Seed Grant.

The deadline for proposal packages is no later than Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m.

The internal Michigan Tech deadline is noon on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

WWF funding and fellowship opportunities

The Luc Hoffmann Institute pursues synthesis ideas that will deliver cutting edge results with a clear pathway to application for decision makers and civil society practitioners in WWF’s key focus areas.  WWF focus areas can be broken into goals focused onpriority places and priority species, and goals focused on reducing human impact, or the human footprint.  Many of these goals receive additional focus through WWF’s Global Initiatives.

Our next call for full proposals is JANUARY 5th, 2014.  For this call, we are accepting proposal ideas across the full suite of WWF focus areas, with a particular focus on synthesis proposals relevant to the goals of WWF Global Initiatives, as well as proposals that explore trade-offs and consequences of alternative social, economic, and ecological futures in the greater Yangtze River area.

To allow enough time to make the next proposal deadline, we recommend that you send us your proposal ideas no later than December 1st, 2013.
