DeVlieg Recipients Announced

The Graduate School is pleased to announce that two students have earned fellowships from The DeVlieg Foundation.  The DeVlieg Foundation has generously provided support for graduate students pursuing research in engineering, wildlife, and biology at Michigan Tech.

The recipients this year are:

  • Patrick Bowen, PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering
  • Nan Pond, PhD candidate in Forest Science

The DeVlieg Foundation and Finishing Fellowships Announced

The Graduate School is pleased to announce recent recipients of fellowship support.

The DeVlieg Foundation supports MS and PhD candidates studying engineering or a closely related field.   Our spring 2011 recipients are:

  • Christopher D. DeDene, MS Candidate in Civil Engineering
  • Meagan L. Harless, PhD Candidate in Biological Sciences
  • Brett P. Spigarelli, PhD Candidate in Chemical Engineering

Summer finishing fellowships were earned by six PhD candidates.  Finishing fellowships provide support to PhD candidates who expect to complete their degrees in the semester they are provided support.  The summer 2011 fellowships are made possible by the generous support of the Graduate School.

  • Yiru Chen, PhD candidate in Forest Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology
  • Fredline Ilorme, PhD candidate in Civil Engineering
  • Daniel Lopez-Gaxiola, PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering
  • Seyyed Hessam Mir Shah Ghassemi, PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics
  • Yinghong Qin, PhD candidate in Civil Engineering
  • Christopher Schwartz, PhD candidate in Biological Sciences

Nominations open for The DeVlieg Foundation Fellowships

The Graduate School is accepting nominations for the 2011 DeVlieg
Foundation Graduate Fellowships.  Applications are due in the Graduate
School no later than 4 pm on February 3, 2011.

This year, The DeVlieg Foundation will provide $3,000 for up to two
doctoral students and $1,500 for one master’s student in support of
research in engineering or a closely related field. Only US citizens or permanent residents eligible for the fellowships, which may be used to supplement other fellowships or assistantships.

Each graduate program may nominate up to two doctoral students and one
master’s student.

Six fellowships awarded from The DeVlieg Foundation

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the awarding of six fellowships made possible by the generous support of The DeVlieg Foundation.  This years recipients will tackle a wide range of research problems from osteoarthritis in the knee to comparing the cost and effectiveness of two water treatment technologies.  Recipients are:
