Postdoctoral Position in Materials for Circuit Breaker Contacts

A post-doctoral position is available immediately within the Institute
of Materials Science at the University of Connecticut to work on
metallic alloys and metal-matrix composites for electrical circuit
breaker contacts. This project is an industrial collaboration sponsored
by GE Energy Industrial Solutions of Plainville, CT. Candidates should
have a strong background in physical metallurgy and experience in
microstructural characterization (particularly transmission electron
microscopy). Prior experience in electrical property measurements and
computational modeling (first principles and/or thermodynamic) would
also be beneficial. This position is a one-year appointment, renewable
for a second year.

Mechanical Engineer with PE (preferred but probably not required) OR, Metallurgical Engineer, OR, Welding Engineer
Minimum of (5) years’ experience
Experience in monitoring welding, hydro-testing procedures, and pipe stress analysis.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:
* A BS degree from an accredited university in an applicable geoscience discipline.

Experience in operating an SEM instrument.
* Solid understanding of the theory and practice of electron microscopy analysis and data reduction.
Preferences:
* Graduate degree(s) with experience in the field.
*

Knowledge of geological and planetary mineralogy is a plus.
* Ability to interpret analyses in a geologically meaningful way.
* Experience with a Focused Ion Beam (FIB) instrument and/or an electron microprobe is a plus.
* Experience working effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
* Demonstrated positive oral and written skills.
* Good computer skills.
