The FIB is down for repairs. I believe we have identified the issue. I will have an update tomorrow.

Update on the FIB. I will need to order some parts. So the system will be down until they arrive.
FIB in Electron Optics
The reservation calendars for the AFM and FIB will no longer be merged. We’re splitting these two calendars. It’s important to note that this is a shared space, and both instruments might be in use simultaneously. If your research is highly sensitive, please make sure to book the room on both calendars.
The new calendars will be named:
- ACMAL-Origin AFM
- ACMAL-FIB

Yesterday we completed the maintenance on the FESEM & FIB. The instruments are available for use.
Due to the intermittent power outages, in addition to the planned power outages, ACMAL will be closed for the remainder of this week. The Confocal Imaging Facility (CIF), will be available unless there is another unplanned power outage during the day.
The X-ray facility will be open beginning Friday morning. All other facilities will be opening next week. Just a reminder, the FIB and FESEM annual maintenance will be occurring next week (5/9 – 5/11).
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Next week, the HITACHI technician will be on campus to perform an annual preventative maintenance check on the FESEM and FIB. The instruments will be unavailable during that time. If all as planned they will be available for reservation starting on Thursday May 12th.
Also, we will begin our end of semester lab cleaning next Wednesday. Any unlabeled samples will be disposed of.
The FIB repairs are complete. The new tip has been installed and it is ready for use.
The FIB tip will be arriving next week. The Hitachi technician will be installing it shortly thereafter. I’ll send out an update when the repair is complete.
The FIB is down until we can get the tip replaced. I am working with Hitachi on a timeline.
The FIB repairs were successfully completed this afternoon. The instrument is available for use.
The AFM and FIB will be unavailable today and tomorrow, July 13th and July14th. We are working on repairing the FIB.
