TEM in Electron Optics
Just letting you know I put the TEM grids back in my office (MM622).
If are in need of TEM grids let me know.

Due to the intermittent power outages, in addition to the planned power outages, ACMAL will be closed for the remainder of this week. The Confocal Imaging Facility (CIF), will be available unless there is another unplanned power outage during the day.
The X-ray facility will be open beginning Friday morning. All other facilities will be opening next week. Just a reminder, the FIB and FESEM annual maintenance will be occurring next week (5/9 – 5/11).

The JEOL JSM-6400 SEM and the JEOL JEM-2010 TEM instruments in the Electron Optics Facility are no longer in service.
Please contact Owen Mills about alternatives.
I’m happy to say that the TEM is back online. You can schedule time when you need it.
The 6400 and JEOL TEM are still down.

Our engineer is sending me a circuit board to try in the TEM. If we are lucky that is all it is we will be back online.

There is a power supply problem that I am working on. Not an easy fix.
So repairs to both instruments are on going.
The 2010 TEM is still down with a vacuum pump problem. I’m working with our service engineer to get it back online.

This time with a vacuum problem. I’m working on it now.
The TEM is ready to be used.
We got very lucky and saved the ion pump. The flake moved when I vented the column.
I suggest you use it soon before any other problems develop.
There is a short in the ion vacuum pump. This happens when a flake of contamination comes off the pump elements and shorts across the high voltage circuit inside the pump. This is bad news because it cannot be serviced in the lab. Unless I can knock the flake loose somehow it will have to be sent back for repair. The microscope would be down a few weeks.

There’s maybe something wrong with the ion pump. Today’s practical exams are cancelled. Hope to have the scope back on for Thursday exams.
