At long last the new Pt/Pd target has arrived and we can return to the normal operating procedure for the sputter coater. I’ve installed and tested the new target.
All equipment status updates.
The Cr target isn’t coating well and users are experiencing charging issues. I’ve changed the target material to Iridium. Please use the settings below.
Target density: 22.42
Current: 20mA
Coating thickness: 1-3nm
The new target is scheduled for shipment and should be arriving soon.
If you have any questions please let me know.
The target on the sputter coater has temporarily been changed from Pr/Pd Cr. There are special directions for using the Cr target (see detailed instructions below). The major differences are an increase in pump time prior to starting the coating cycle, a change in the material density, and a change in the sputter current. If you have any issues please let me know.
Regarding thickness, remember that 1-2 nm of coating is ideal.
Good morning,
This is just a reminder that the ACMAL facilities will be CLOSED Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24th and 25th, 2022, in observance of Thanksgiving. This is a university holiday so the building will also be locked. Only those with swipe access will be able to use the instruments. Please plan your instrument use accordingly.
I will be on vacation starting at noon tomorrow returning to work on Monday 11/28. Dr. Freitas, Dr. Leftwich, and Mr. Josh King will be available through Wednesday (11/23). Dr. Laitila will be available through Tuesday (11/22).
In case of an emergency call public safety.
Happy Holidays,
Liz
AFM repairs are completed. Dr. Leftwich was able to repair the Fiber-lite.
For those instruments on the electronic system, you should tap in when you enter the lab for a scheduled session. When your analysis is completed, for all samples, tap out prior to leaving the lab.
Changes to the logbook can be submitted using the Logbook Update Request Form.
If you end your session early or cancel a reservation, always update the Google Calendar.
There is an issue with the Fiber-lite on the AFM. The instrument is offline until we’re able to fix the issue. It may just need a new bulb.
Just a reminder that the previous use rates expired on September 30, 2022. The instrument rates have been renewed and are effective from October 1, 2022 – September 30, 2024. Detailed information is available on the Use Rate section of the ACMAL website.
Please remember to close the lab doors at the end of your session. These are very expensive instruments and we want to ensure they don’t get damaged.
I will be out of the office from October 4th through October 9. I will be monitoring emails and responding when I get back.
Below are the contacts if you need assistance with instruments in the Electron Optics Facility or the Scanning Probe Microscopy Facility.
