The BSE detector has been repaired. A big thanks to Dr. Ed for resoldering it!
All equipment status updates.
The ESEM can still be used. However, the backscatter detector needs to be repaired. There is a wire that needs to be resoldered. The repairs should be completed by the end of the week.
The STEM is available for use. Please limit participants in the room to 2.
The STEM is currently down for repair. The rooftop chiller requires a new power supply. MTU Facilities is working on the project. However, at this time we do not have an estimated completion date. I will send out an update when we know more.
This is just a reminder that the ACMAL facilities will be CLOSED Monday, September 5th, 2022. This is a University Closed Holiday so the building will also be locked. Only those with swipe access will be able to use the instruments. Please plan your instrument use accordingly.
P.S. I will be on vacation September 1st – 5th.

In case of an emergency call public safety.
The ESEM and EDS system are fully functional. However, the EBSD detector is down until further notice.
I’ve tried solving the problem with Oxford remotely. Unfortunately, we will need to bring a technician on site and will likely need to replace the HKL box. I am looking into the details and will let you know when I have more information.
I would like to let you know I’ll be on vacation from July 18th to 22nd and will not be available to run TEM sessions or training sessions during that period of time at the FEI 200kV Titan Themis STEM.
Also, a new rooftop chiller will be installed soon at the STEM lab and the instrument will be unavailable. I’ll let you know when that is going to happen.
