Specimen Prep in Electron Optics
The carbon coater repairs are completed. If you need any samples coated, please contact Aleister, Josh, or myself.
The sputter coater is back online. I’ve temporarily replaced the Pt/Pd target with Iridium. The Ir target will function just as well as the Pt/Pd, it may even be better for high resolution imaging.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
The sputter coater needs a new target. I’m working with our supplier and should have a replacement soon. Until then we can coat your samples with carbon. Please contact Aleister Kerr or myself if you need any samples coated.
As a result of Dr. Koubek’s email to campus regarding the Governor’s executive order, I am cancelling all use reservations in the calendar this afternoon. We will be ready to begin again after we return from the stay at home 3 weeks from now.
I will be out next week but I’ll mostly be in town. I could come in if needed. Aleister will be here working working 2 hours each day for coating samples and helping users. He plans to be here at midday.
The labs will be open all week between 8 – 5 and restricted users will work then. Unrestricted users have 24 hour access. Newly trained users, please work while Aleister is at work in case you have trouble.
Call Aleister or me if you have trouble. Aleister 520-576-3557. Owen 906-369-1875.
Thanks, Owen
We have 3 stainless steel dewar tanks for dispensing liquid nitrogen in room 637 (Sample Prep). One of them has had a leak and was unusable for several months. I repaired it yesterday. If you find that the dewar in the outer room is empty get the 2nd one in the back room. There is no need to take the hose off of the 2nd dewar any more.
We will check parts inventory Monday.
I installed the new Pt/Pd sputter target today.
The PtPd target wore out this morning. I have a new one on order. In the mean time we are using the iridium target. You won’t be able to tell the difference with the Ir coating.
