Hello!
My name is Katie Higley (She/Her), and I am excited to be the Archives Intern for Summer 2024. I am glad to be spending my summer in the beautiful UP. I have a Bachelor of Science in Public History from Central Michigan University (CMU). This fall, I am heading into the second year of my Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I stumbled into archival work by accident as a freshman at CMU. At CMU, I was a student worker on the Clarke Historical Libraries film project, which involved processing, describing, and rehousing reels of Channel 9&10 News. From working in the Clarke, I decided to head down the archival career path by starting my MSLIS. I have spent the last year as a Graduate Assistant at the Archives Research Center and a Graduate Hourly for Media Preservation at the University of Illinois. I enjoy working with collections related to student life, sports, and film.
I am looking forward to my time in Houghton and learning more about the town and its people through the rich archival collections at the Michigan Tech Archives.
