Olivia Laven ’24 (BS in Engineering Management) Named to All-America Team

College of Business graduate Olivia Laven ’24 BS in Engineering Management, was named to the CSC Academic All-America At-Large Team this July. Laven, from Stockholm, Sweden, skied for the Michigan Tech Women’s Nordic Skiing team from 2019 to 2024.

CSC–College Sports Communicators –is a 4,100+ member national association for strategic, creative and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada.

Michigan Tech Named a Best Value College for 2024 by The Princeton Review

Michigan Tech has been recognized as one of the nation’s best colleges for students seeking a great education with excellent career preparation.

The Princeton Review named Michigan Technological University as one of its Best Value Colleges for 2024 on June 20. The education services company reports seven categories of ranked lists. Among the nation’s public colleges and universities, Michigan Tech was named No. 2 on the list of Best Schools for Internships, No. 9 for Best Career Placement and No. 18 for Best Schools for Financial Aid. In the Best Value Colleges category, solely based on return on investment, or ROI, Michigan Tech was ranked No. 33. 

Jenny Apriesnig Quoted in TV6 Story about C-CHARM Project

Jenny Apriesnig, Assistant Professor of Economics (COB), was quoted by WLUC TV6 in a story about the “C-CHARM project,” which centers on the Michigan Tech-led Center for Climate-driven Hazard Adaptation, Resilience, and Mitigation. The center’s mission is to bring stakeholders from local communities, governments and researchers to improve community durability against the impacts of abnormal weather. MTU announced the center’s creation in an October 2023 press release.

Business Insider Chooses the Most Underrated College in Every State

Michigan Tech has earned itself another title: The Most Underrated College in Michigan.  In a national review, Business Insider recently chose the 50 most underrated colleges in the United States.  They toted Michigan Tech as the champ for Michigan, stating of the winners:

Oftentimes, these schools’ strong academic programs are overshadowed by the popular perception that a college is better if it’s tough to get into.  These colleges challenge that myth, and are smart – and potentially safe – options for student applicants.

Several factors helped decide which schools made the top of the list for each state, including academic rankings, in-state population, and acceptance rates.

It’s true: we have an acceptance rate close to 75%.  Also true: on average, our incoming students have a 3.66 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and an ACT composite score of 26.7.  Our students are crazy smart, and we were recently recognized as #11 in the nation for public schools with the smartest students.
