Looking for a way to get involved in an organization that both interests you and meets your educational goals? The Green Campus Enterprise welcomes ALL majors and focuses on projects pertaining to sustainability around Michigan Tech campus. Everyone works in teams to perform weekly tasks to meet attainable goals, and develop lasting relationships while learning and working towards a more environmental friendly Michigan Tech.  

Green Campus Enterprise (GCE) designs and implements projects to improve the sustainability of the Michigan Tech campus. GCE works closely with Michigan Tech administration to effectively engage the university community in reducing its carbon footprint, which it measures annually.

SDH Event: Looking for an Excuse to Eat Out?

How Sustainable Are the Restaurants in the Keweenaw?We are on a mission to find the most sustainable restaurant in the Keweenaw and we need your help!  Fill out this Google Form every time you dine-in or order takeout at a local restaurant in the Keweenaw to rate the sustainability of your experience.
This initiative involves 3 main phases:

  • Phase 1 involves rating the sustainability of your dine-in and/or takeout experience every time you eat at a local restaurant in the Keweenaw.  Please fill out this Google Form to rate how sustainable your experience was.
  • Phase 2 involves reviewing restaurant menus to see how many vegetarian/vegan options they offer.  
  • Phase 3 involves interviewing local restaurant owners to learn more about where they source their food from and what they do with the waste they produce.

2021 Design Expo — Registration Now Open

Mark your calendars—the 21st annual Design Expo will be held virtually on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Important Dates:

Registration Deadline: March 04, 2021, by 11PM

Video and Digital Poster Submission: April 08, 2021, by 11PM

Video Judging: April 12-15, 2021

Virtual Design Expo: April 15, 2021, 2-hour live event

What will this year’s Virtual Design Expo look like?

RocketJudge
RocketJudge is a platform designed to streamline competitions—the platform works with more than 500 different competitions a year around the world to provide electronic scoring for professional conferences, university poster sessions, invention conventions, science fairs and more.

Who will use RocketJudge: Enterprise and Senior Design team videos will be asynchronously scored by judges over the course of four (4) days, April 12 – April 15, leading up to the Virtual Design Expo, April 15, 2021. Prior to the start of Virtual Design Expo, judges will have the opportunity to review team video presentations and assign a score.

Zoom
Who will use Zoom: The Michigan Tech community, friends, family, and corporate sponsors are invited to tune into Zoom for the Design Expo Opening Remarks to officially kick-off the event. More information to come.

Gatherly
Gatherly is a platform designed for spatial video chat. The platform lets users move around and talk freely to others at the event. As soon as you move close to someone on the map, you automatically start video-chatting with them. Move into an open group, and you’ll join their conversation seamlessly.

Who will use Gatherly: The Michigan Tech community, friends, family, and project sponsors are invited to tune into Gatherly for a 2-hour event where teams and audience members have the chance to engage in conversations over project work, discoveries, and everything in between. Registration for Gatherly is coming soon.

As part of 2021 Engineers Week programming, MTU’s Tau Beta Pi MI-Beta chapter will be hosting a moderated alumni panel on Wednesday, February 24th at 4PM. Students will be able to ask questions to MTU College of Engineering alumni about their post-graduate careers and the future of industry in alignment with this year’s Engineers Week theme of “Imagining Tomorrow”. 

Students will be able to pre-submit their questions here or ask them in real time. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about what to expect and how to shape and adapt your own skills and abilities to meet the ever-changing demand of an engineering field.

Scholarship: MTU CEE Pipeline Partner Scholarship

The CEE Pipeline Partner Scholarship program is an opportunity for students to connect to grow their civil and construction industry networks while receiving an up-to-five-year, recurring scholarship. The scholarship is thanks to partnerships from a growing list of civil and construction industry firms, including Jay Dee Contractors, Rowe Professional Services, Great Lakes Engineering Group, JL Kloote, Dan’s Excavating, AJAX, Fieldstone Architecture and Engineers, and Anlaan Corporation.

To be eligible, students must major and make progress in civil engineering, geospatial engineering, or construction management, while maintaining a 2.5 GPA. As part of the program, students will be connected to civil and construction industry representatives.

Students receiving the scholarship will be required to post their resume for review by the Pipeline Partners, post a video about themselves and their interests, and write a thank you to the Pipeline Portal Partners.

Students will receive the support from the Pipeline Portal Partners such as preparation for preparing for interviews, connections and mentors in the civil and construction industry, and ultimately cultivating internship and full-time employment opportunities through the partnerships.

Deadline for submission: Preference will be given to recipients apply by March 10th. However, scholarships will be awarded until all resources have been exhausted.
