While social distancing does create challenges, Michigan Tech Career Services is reaching out to students to make sure their future is still bright.

Careers Services is now offering online career advising through Handshake. You can schedule an appointment here.

Students who need to turn in co-op paperwork may do so by email.

Handshake has consolidated all of its virtual career search blog resources for students on its new “Get Hired Remotely” landing page. Check it out to see some career tips.

Those interested in how they can up their career-search game while working remotely, are invited to attend one of two “Maximize Your Time at Home” virtual sessions.

The first session will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (EDT) today (April 14). Register here. The session will be held via Zoom.

The second session will be held from noon to 1 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow (April 15) via Zoom. Register here.

Job Posting: GTEC (Traverse City, MI)

GTEC has an Engineer in Training position open in Traverse City, Michigan. They are looking for someone who is patient and able to be multi-dimensional. From geospatial acquisition to civil design to construction management, you will likely see it all. Also, they just purchased a Norbit Mulit-Beam Hydrographic Surveying Sonar, Hovermap Lidar Unit, and an American Drone.

Under the current circumstances they are having difficulty getting anyone to apply. GTEC doesn’t have any specific timeline, so are very open and flexible. Please contact Jon Arleth (contact info below) if you are interested.

Youth speaker Sophia Kianni will also give her address about climate advocacy and her experiences as a youth leader by Zoom March 24 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Kianni is a youth climate activist based in Washington D.C., working  with Fridays for Future, This is Zero Hour and Extinction Rebellion as an international spokesperson. Kianni’s address will be recorded and captioned so that those who are unable to make the live event can watch it later.

Art Show   
The World Water Day 2020 art show features “Environmental Graphiti”—a series of digital paintings by Alisa Singer. Singer’s works were created to enhance public awareness of the science of climate change. Each of the 23 works of art is derived from a chart, graph, map, word or number relating to a key fact about climate change. Use the interactive campus map to take a virtual tour of the exhibit.

This position functions as a Staff Engineer for the Metro Region Construction and Materials Unit (Metro CFS).  The purpose of the position is to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations on construction projects in the Metro Region.  This position will assist Metro CFS Staff Engineers with various duties in both construction administration and materials testing and acceptance.

Education
