This year’s D80 Conference theme is The Intersection of Public Service and Community Engagement and topics include:
- The Father’s Day Flood: Service, CommUNITY, and Preventative Measures -Food Insecurities, Food Sovereignty and Community Health
- Project work conducted in places such as Panama, Ghana, Tanzania, Peru, Bahamas and more
We are very excited to welcome this year’s D80 Conference keynote speaker, Michigan Tech graduate, Otha Thornton, the owner and Principal Consultant for the Thornton Consulting Group.
This year’s conference is sponsored by Michigan Tech’s Pavlis Honors College, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and the Sustainable Futures Institute. Registration is required. The deadline to register is Friday (Oct. 4).

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently seeking a Bridge Inspection Engineer located in Saginaw, Michigan.
This is an entry/intermediate/experienced level position that functions as a bridge inspector and performs routine and detailed inspections of over 1183 bridges and culverts within the Bay Region which comply to state and FHWA regulations. This position may work in a team atmosphere or independently to ensure the safety of MDOT bridges. The general responsibilities will include conducting in-service field inspections, detailed inspections, preparing inspection reports, evaluating bridge data, assisting with scoping documents, construction assistance, and database administration. This position is required to respond to emergencies related to bridge safety and provide technical assistance to region and statewide personnel. Operate a Motor Vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Weight Rating (GVWR) of between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds whenever needed to perform bridge safety inspection duties.
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

We are in the Curtain Wall and Glazing Industry which is basically the glass on skyscrapers and large buildings.
