Department of Computer Science instructional-track faculty candidate Sujan Kumar Roy will give a classroom presentation on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 1 p.m. ET via Zoom online meeting. The title of Roy’s talk is, “Teaching Seminar on Introduction to Data Science with My Teaching Methods and Teaching Areas of Expertise.” The talk will discuss introductory data science topics, tools, and methods.
Presentation Topics and Target Audience
The presentation will demonstrate introductory topics on data science tools/methods, namely DataFrame, tabular operations, pivots and joins, data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, regular expressions, etc. This class is designed for first-year or second-year undergraduate students seated to learn data science for the first time. The lecture is geared to students who don’t have any prior knowledge or background in data science.
Biography
Dr. Sujan Kumar Roy was born in Kurigram, Bangladesh on 21st Oct 1983. He received the B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees (with Distinctions) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. He also received the Master of Applied Science (M. A. Sc.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, in May 2016. Later on, he earned a Ph. D. degree with Distinction from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia in May 2021. His Ph. D. thesis has been awarded the “Award of Excellence in the Research Thesis” and considered for the “Chancellor’s Medal for Excellence in Ph. D. Thesis 2021 ”.
Dr. Roy has 13 years of teaching and research career. Particularly, he was serving as a full-time Lecturer (March 2010 to March 2013), Assistant Professor (March 2013 to May 2013, March 2016 to October 2017, and August 2021 to January 2022), and Associate Professor (Jan 22 to date) at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Dr. Roy’s current teaching and research focus on Data Science, Data Mining, AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data Concept, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity. In his free time, Dr. Roy likes traveling and exploring new places, learning new cultures and activities, watching movies, and reading different books.
