Graduate School Summer Seminar Series

The Graduate School is pleased to announce its summer seminar series.  Seminars focus on topics of interest to students completing a thesis or dissertation, and some will be presented in conjunction with the Library.

The start time for all seminars will be 2:30pm.

Please register online so we can plan for your attendance and let you know the location of the seminar.  Space is limited, but all seminars will be taped to provide access to our off campus students and those unable to attend.

  • June 9, Tips and Tricks for MS Office
    Learn how to use efficiently use MS Office.  Seminar will be similar to GSG lunch and learn from spring 2010.
  • June 30, An Introduction to EndNote
    EndNote helps you organize, search, and enter citations in your documents.  Co-presented with Rhianna Williams from the Library.
  • July 14, An Introduction to Copyright
    Learn the basics about copyright and how to use materials published by others in your thesis or dissertation. Co-presented with Nora Allred from the Library.

Now Accepting Applications for BS, MS or PhD Graduates and recent Alumni (within the last 5 years) in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physical Sciences, Cyber/Computer Security, Information/Systems Technology or related technology degrees.

Opportunity in Carlsbad, New Mexico for a full-time, one-year or more commitment, starting in October or November 2013 to conduct mission-oriented research in DOE’s Carlsbad Field Office.  Applicant must be interested in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment focused on energy technology research and development.

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens – no exceptions.

Strong analytical, research and communication skills are required.  Annual stipends are dependent on academic level, skills and experience. Additional allowances for travel to site, medical insurance or housing may be provided.

Office of International Climate Change Policy and Technology Fellowship

The Office of International Climate Change Policy and Technology within the Office of International Affairs (IA) is now accepting applications for talented, committed fellows to support efforts related to the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), which is a high-level forum to promote policies and programs that advance clean energy technology, to share lessons learned and best practices, and to encourage the transition to a global clean energy economy.

Application deadline:  Wednesday January 15, 2014

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have received an undergraduate (BS/BA) or graduate (MS/MA or PhD) degree from an accredited institution within the past five years.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
  • Must be available for full-time commitment for one-year appointment in Washington, D.C., starting in February/March 2014; appointments may be renewed for a second year.

Stipends range from $60,000 to $90,000 depending on academic level, skills, and experience.  Additional allowances for medical insurance or transportation may be provided.

Participating governments include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  The Fellowship position would involve frequent interactions with international counterparts and some international travel.

DOE’s SCGSR program is now accepting applications!

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science is pleased to announce that the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is now accepting applications for the 2015 solicitation.  Applications are due 5:00pm ET on Tuesday April 14, 2015.

The SCGSR program is open to U.S. citizens who are current Ph.D. candidates in qualified graduate programs at accredited U.S. academic institutions, who are conducting their graduate thesis research in targeted areas of importance to the DOE Office of Science.

The SCGSR program supports supplemental awards (stipend + transportation costs to/from host laboratory) to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a period of 3 to 12 consecutive months—with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission.

The Office of Science expects to make approximately 100 awards in 2015, for project periods beginning anytime between October 2015 and September 2016.
